Why do we celebrate Bonfire Night?

Bonfire Night, also known as Guy Fawkes Night, is traditionally celebrated across Britain on 5th November.

The date marks the failure of the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, when a group of conspirators planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament. Guy Fawkes was discovered beneath Parliament guarding barrels of gunpowder and was arrested.

More than 400 years later, 5th November is still marked with bonfires and fireworks, although many organised displays now take place on the nearest Friday, Saturday or Sunday rather than Bonfire Night itself.

Can I take a dog to a firework display in Suffolk?
