An area guide to Snape and surrounding areas.

Snape is a favourite destination for lovers of culture, nature or classical music.
Situated a few miles inland from The Suffolk Coast, Snape is surrounded by miles of distinctive countryside, idyllic for walkers, birdwatchers and photographers with its golden reedbeds and gentle river, where visitors can spot seals and enjoy kayaking in summer.

Most famous for the Aldeburgh Music Festival, founded by Benjamin Britten, which takes place every June in the spectacular Snape Maltings Concert Hall and around the sight; guests can enjoy concerts and festivals throughout the year, including the FlipSide Festival with Anglo-Brazilian music; literature and dance; and the Snape Proms providing classical music.

Surrounding the concert hall are many boutique shops, art galleries, restaurants, cafes, a Food Hall and an excellent gastro pub, The Plough and Sail, with two more traditional pubs serving great food in the heart of the village.

A wonderful four mile walk or bike ride along the Alde River and Sailor’s Path to the picturesque seaside town of Aldeburgh is highly recommended, and visitors will be rewarded with excellent restaurants, shops and art galleries.

Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with many cultural attractions, Snape is in an ideal situation for enjoying the many attractions along the Suffolk Coast – Framlingham (just a short drive away) with its majestic castle, RSPB Minsmere, magical Thorpeness with it’s Meare, the picturesque towns of Southwold with it’s colourful beach huts and Orford- with the Butley Oysterage and Orford Ness.
