Wortwell sits on the River Waveney which forms the county boundary of Suffolk and Norfolk. The village name originates from 'Wort', found to spring from a well, when the local brewer was happy with the beer brewed from the Wortwell he would ring a bell to let the local residents know. To this day you can enjoy a good pint at the appropriately named The Wortwell Bell which also has a varied menu with delicious steaks, burgers, popular pub classics, gluten-free and vegetarian dishes, with freshly made wood-fired pizzas on a Friday.
Towns of Halesworth, Diss and Harleston are close; the latter being a vibrant market town filled with historic buildings and an impressive array of independent shops, chemist, delicatessen and several coffee shops.
