What our guests say

“Lovely house, very quirky, great attention to detail. It was absolutely freezing when we were here so the massive bath was brilliant, just what we needed. Very relaxing stay, wish it was for longer”

“Absolutely stunning place to stay! So quirky, interesting and out of the norm! Peaceful and relaxing but convenient enough location! Very enjoyable”

The Vintage House at Aldeburgh

This inspiring Aldeburgh holiday cottage offers flexible 'any day' arrival dates for two or more nights all year around. The house amazingly still has all the original furniture that was bought for the house in 1928, all brought back to life by careful restoration.

“We have had a lovely relaxing stay in this step back in time 1920’s cottage, can’t fault it in anyway. We are already looking into when we can come back weather was good with some lovely sunny days.”

“We’ve had a lovely stay - the weather has been glorious and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Vintage House - which is so quirky and original!! We’ve enjoyed regular visits to Aldeburgh which is very friendly & welcoming. Walked over to Thorpeness, which again is a very pretty & nostalgia place. We spent the day at Minsmere, which was a lovely experience and most of all we’ve had time to chill and enjoy the peace and quiet”

"Thank you very much for the lovely stay, it was really cosy and welcoming. We loved sitting round the fire playing cards with it's homely atmosphere. We are surely coming back to Aldeburgh."

"We have had a wonderful stay here, every convenience we needed, including such a comfortable bed and super shower. Loved all the period details including the games and toys as well as the photos of the previous occupants. Discovered the Aldeburgh Cafe thanks to recommendations found here - enjoyed wonderful sunny brunches sitting outside before setting off on our walks - not bad for mid October! Went to a concert at Snape Maltings and walked the Sailors Path. Enjoyed relaxing in the garden and watching the birds."

"Enjoyed our stay at this unique house, loved Aldeburgh and surrounding area, we will return! Thank you"

The ground floor of the house has a sitting room, dining room and kitchen, all with original furniture and open fires (in the case of the kitchen a cast iron range), plus a cloakroom. Upstairs there is one double room, one twin, and a gorgeous family bath and shower room. Outside there are two large gardens with room for barbeques and drinks, and unrestricted on-road parking in front of the house.

In the room there is fully restored original furniture, purchased in 1929, soon after the house was built. There is one sofa and two armchairs, and a subtly concealed flat screen TV with a DVD player and an iPod docking station.

KITCHEN: This room retains it period character, with the original (non-working) range cooker and hot water boiler, but has modern amenities, including a free standing dual fuel cooker and fridge tucked away behind the scenes in the pantry.

DINING ROOM: Frozen in time, this room exudes the calm and gentle atmosphere of the 1920s with its open fire, original furniture and restored bay window to the front garden.

FIRST FLOOR : A set of original stairs from the ground floor leads to a first floor landing from which both bedrooms, the bathroom and Newsom Room can all be accessed.

There is also a set of drawers, built in wardrobe, dressing table and bedroom chair.

BEDROOM 2: The room overlooks the front garden and has twin beds, a dressing table, chest of drawers and built-in wardrobe.

BATHROOM: To the rear of the property there is a spacious family bathroom, complete with roll-top bath with shower over, W.C. and hand basin.

THE NEWSOM ROOM: The special history of this uniquely preserved house can be examined in this room, with photos and memorabilia from the original owners, the Newsoms.
