Dunwich is a wonderful place for a holiday at any time of the year, relaxed yet within easy reach of civilisation tucked between Aldeburgh and Southwold on the Suffolk Coast. You’d hardly believe that the small unspoilt coastal village was once the capital of East Anglia around 1500 years ago, or that it was at the centre of the wool trade through the Middle Ages. Hundreds of years of coastal erosion mean that most of this is gone leaving behind a rural idyll.
The village has a long stretch of shingle beach as well as a popular pub, The Ship Inn, serving delicious food and local beverages; a tea room renowned for quality fish and chips plus a fascinating museum open from April to October. Nearby in the Westleton area you’ll find a village store, post office and The Crown, also serving local beers and excellent pub food.
Southwold is only 15 minutes drive and Aldeburgh approximately 20 minutes. The area is also great for walking, cycling and exploring, with many wonderful walks straight from the front door on marshlands, Dunwich Forest or Heath with RSPB Minsmere close by for bird watchers.
Sorry, no smoking or unaccompanied teenagers are permitted at the property.
