    “We have returned to Durdans for a few years now, just because it is perfect for our needs.”

    Its position is ideal, close to Southwold, we park the cars and walk everywhere. The house and gardens are amazing, perfect for the dog. We will, no doubt, return again next year.

The property

You are welcomed into a generous, bright and beautifully hand made fitted kitchen with separate utility area and door leading to the reading room. The large and comfortable drawing room, off the reading room, has an open fire and doors to the garden. On the first floor there is an L shaped landing with doors opening to the master bedroom with en suite bathroom, a single with full size pull out bed, king and twin bedrooms and a family bathroom. There is an additional wet room on the ground floor off the hallway – great for sandy feet! This detached house is tucked away in a quiet road close to the village. Three patios ensure that guests can enjoy the sun at any time of the day. There is ample parking for two cars on the drive, as well as on generous grass verge. Ground Floor Kitchen Double doors open directly into this large contemporary kitchen with bespoke units by well known Suffolk joiners Church and Gooderham. A skylight makes this a particularly bright room. The large wooden table is great for meals with friends and family with ten chairs and there are an additional two cane chairs and Welsh dresser stacked with cookery books for the chef of the party! Integral appliances include an electric eye level oven with separate grill, induction hob with five rings and an integrated dishwasher, fridge and freezer. Utility Room Conveniently located off the kitchen, the utility room has a second fridge and freezer, washing machine and dryer. Reading Room Stacked with books and a selection of DVDs, this room acts as an inner hall with doors leading to the kitchen, lounge and the hall. The room is furnished with a writing desk and comfortable chairs, making it ideal for sitting quietly with a book or doing a spot of work, as well as a games table and stock of games for the more active members of the family! Drawing Room Accessed through the reading room, this is the perfect place for guests to enjoy each other’s company. This sizeable room has French doors onto the west facing patio to make full use of the garden during summer, and a wood-burning stove for the chilly nights. Furniture includes an eclectic mix of sofas, comfy armchairs, coffee tables, a Victorian church pew as well as a TV and ipod dock. Hall The front door opens into the hall with a tiled floor. Stairs lead to the first floor and doors open to the sitting room, wet room and reading room. ‘Den’ This is a charming light room with west and east-facing windows. Wonderful in the summer with its door leading onto a south-facing American style porch, the room is equally cosy in the winter with the original fireplace with open fire, large sofa and window seat. Wet room Ideal when you come home from the beach or a muddy walk, the wet room is just off the hallway and has a shower, washbasin, and WC. First Floor Wooden stairs lead from the hall to the L shaped first-floor landing with the master and single bedrooms at one side of the house and the twin, king and family bathroom to the other. The landing is carpeted with bedrooms having lovely painted wooden floors with rugs. Master bedroom This beautifully bright and spacious dual aspect room with super-king size bed, has windows overlooking the gardens to both the south and west. There is ample storage in the built-in wardrobe with shelves and drawers, a Victorian dressing table with mirror above as well as a full-length wall mirror and a wooden floor has a large rug on it. En-Suite Bathroom A luxurious bathroom with a double-ended roll-top bath as well as a walk-in shower, washbasin, toilet, and heated towel rail. A west-facing window gives natural daylight. Single Bedroom A large single room with east-facing window catching the morning sun. The single bed has a full size pull out single bed for guests wishing to transform the room into a twin. There is also a chest of drawers and hooks for guests wishing to hang clothes. Twin Bedroom Great for children or adults, this room has handsome wooden twin beds with a small chest of drawers and bedside lamp in between, a built-in wardrobe, chair, and west-facing window. King Bedroom This large light room has south and east-facing windows overlooking the gardens. The king-size bed has a contemporary wooden frame, there is storage in a wardrobe with built-in shelves and a writing desk with drawers. An original decorative fireplace adds character to this charming room. Family Bathroom With bath and hand shower, basin, toilet and heated towel rail, this is ideally situated next to the double bedroom and opposite the twin. The bathroom benefits from a south-facing window. Outside Guests can park in the driveway where there is space for two cars with overflow in front of the house on the grass verge. A path from the drive leads to the kitchen door, with a second path leading from Palmers Lane through the garden gate to the original front door. Durdans has a huge south facing garden, mostly laid to lawn, surrounded by well-established hedges, shrubs and mature trees giving almost total privacy. There is a small orchard and one section has been transformed into a delightful shrubbery. Beds close to the house are planted with hydrangeas and other plants. There is a path around the house with a variety of paved or decked patio areas allowing guests to enjoy dining in the open air, making the most of the sun from every angle. The patio outside the ‘den’ has an American style porch.

A delightful coastal village set at the mouth of the River Blyth in the Suffolk Coast National Nature Reserve. This place is perfect for a chilled break by the sea. It offers a small range of delightful shops, pubs, restaurants and cafés to choose from. The nearest town is Southwold just a short trip over the River Blyth, it offers a good selection of amenities as well as a museum and a light house. The city of Norwich is also accessible and is well worth a visit. Walberswick is one of the few places in the UK with very little light pollution.
