The Forge

My wife and I would highly recommend The Forge as a base for exploring Suffolk.

The property has been renovated to a very high standard which made it a lovely place to return to after being out for the day. And we appreciated the welcome food and drink that the owner had kindly left for us. We would definitely return.

A lovely ‘ bolt hole’ to relax for a few days.

Very comfortable, clean, and obviously loved by the owners. Garden area very pretty and cared for too. Central for going out and about exploring Suffolk.

The host Bev welcomed us on arrival and ensured we understood how to work all the 'gadgets'. We had a delightful short break and hope to be back soon.

This was our fourth stay at the Forge and it was amazing, the accommodation was 1st class as always, the weather was lovely and the hosts couldn’t do enough for you.

A welcome pack was left for us as always which included fresh eggs from their chickens. These were delicious. We would not hesitate to recommend the Forge to family and friends.

This is a superbly comfortable and well appointed holiday home.

Beautifully laid out and meticulously cleaned by hospitable hosts. Much thought has gone into the design of this most unique accommodation - it is clearly a labour of love by it's attentive and caring owners! Vacation here, or enjoy it as a base from which to work instead of the usual hotel, for quiet solitude in the centre of the Suffolk countryside. My stay here was a most happy one!

As I have already told the owner, lovely though many cottages are, it is rare to find one where aesthetics and functionality are so perfectly matched.

Everywhere you look, there is something that pleases or delights the eye, and everything you could need has been thought through. We are fairly sure that this is one of the rare places where the owners have actually lived in it and tested it out for themselves, so everything is where you need it. Beautiful, comfortable, warm, clean, peaceful, atmospheric and full of really helpful choices, such as large bedside tables with good lamps and built-in tray tops, and plenty of coat pegs for when you come in from the rain - hooray!! The ONE suggestion I have is a pair of rubber gloves, as the water is extremely hot. - but that's literally it! We didn't eat out at all as it was so lovely staying in with the fabulous forge fireplace. We loved our stay and very much hope to return.

This was our 2nd visit to this lovely comfortable venue.

It's a great location for travelling either to the coast or inland to enjoy what the scenery has to offer, or just relaxing. The hosts Bev and Graham you will find are very helpful and friendly. Enjoy your stay.

Very luxurious and equipped with everything that makes a holiday perfect. Very friendly owners who had good suggestions for us to expore Suffolk.

Lovely relaxing week at Beverley and Graham's property, "The Forge" last week.

Despite the HOT weather (in 30's), able to stay cool, with windows on two sides and leaving door open on another. If that failed, there was already an adjustable height/speed electric fan in the property. That's an indication of the thought they've used, in the design and converting an old village forge. Nice touches everywhere. Generous welcome items included eggs from their own hens (just outside the window, but peaceful rather than cacophonous). All on one level, and able to unload/park a few feet from the door, it suited us admirably, as my wife uses a walking stick for walking with any assurance. Excellent base to explore that lovely part of Suffolk coast and countryside. Staying a month in Beverley and Graham's creation, would be no hardship.

The Forge was absolutely perfect in every way.

The garden was a delight. The conversion was wonderful and every little comfort was provided. Nothing was too much trouble for Bev and Graham; all the little extras left for us were very much appreciated. We would highly recommend and we’re sure we will return.

It was certainly worth the 300 mile journey from Cumbria! It was a great base to explore an area we didn't know, and a lovely place to return to each evening. It was like a home from home and a boutique hotel all rolled into one. The attention to detail was second to none and the thoughtful extra touches were most appreciated. The welcome basket, including eggs from the owners' chickens amongst many other things, was the best we've had. The Forge is a real credit to you, Bev and Graham, and it was clear that you were rightly proud of it! We will certainly book again when we are in the area. Best wishes Tracey and Gary

Bev & Graham made us feel very at home . Super welcome goodies & fresh eggs laid by their chickens. ( The girls as I called them ) The Forge beautifully decorated with every thing one would need. Central for exploring & there was even Northern lights one evening. Thank you both The Forge very comfortable & we enjoyed our stay .

The Forge was immaculate, so much thought had gone into making it comfortable and cosy.

The attention to detail in the furnishings. Everything you could need was provided. The way the space had been used to accommodate everything was amazing. Bev and Graham were excellent hosts but without being at all intrusive. Very welcome goodies were left in the kitchen which was a lovely touch including fresh eggs from there hens.

Quiet location with lovely walks on the doorstep. Owners were really welcoming and helpful. Welcome pack of fresh eggs laid by the owners hens, fresh bread, conserves and orange juice. Complementary house slippers were also a nice touch!

Fabulous property perfect for visiting Suffolk and its surrounds.

Bev and Graham were great hosts but let us have our privacy. Although the property is in part of their garden it still felt separate and secluded. We would highly recommend and go back if in the area. Everything was immaculate and lots of attention to detail. Great value.

Our stay at the Forge was a return visit within a month.

We had a fabulous time staying here again, Bev & Graham are amazing hosts and the Forge itself is quiet, comfortable, spotlessly clean and surrounded by beautiful plants and trees. We wouldn't hesitate to return again.

Absolutely beautifully finished little cottage.

Attention to detail is fabulous. The cottage is within the garden and at the end of the drive of the owner, but it really wasn't an issue at all, Parking right outside the door next to the lovely weeping silver birch tree. Bev was friendly and welcoming but then left me to it. Her gardens are absolutely stunning and I really enjoyed looking out of the window over the summer borders. The bed is extremely comfortable, and even though it is an open plan, living room, bedroom with dining area, in one room, the way that it has been laid out feels spacious and calming. The decor is really lovely. I travelled alone and stayed two weeks whilst I worked in the area - there is also excellent wifi which was useful for me to catch up on work in the evenings. Unfortunately I didn't get to spend much time in The Forge, much to my dismay. It has such a nice feel, I could have happily relaxed and sat in the garden for hours. The second week I was there it was very hot. Bev had switched the duvet for a light summer duvet which was very thoughtful and added a fan but I didn't need it as with the windows and velux open through the evening, it cooled down nicely. The kitchen is compact and has no oven but that wasn't a problem for me. There is a combi microwave thing and Bev can provide a Chef Ninja which I think is an air fryer, but I didn't need it. Bev has kitted it out with everything you could need to prepare a meal. Even a loaf of home made bread, butter, and a pint of milk. Very useful for my late arrival. I highly recommend The Forge if visiting the area. I would definitely stay there again if I am in the area. Thank you Bev for a lovely stay.

A gem of a property

Wow, definitely one of Suffolks best kept secrets.

The Forge is a superb country escape, beautifully equipped with absolutely everything you could possibly need. So quiet and restful. The owners have taken a piece of Suffolk's history and lovingly restored and improved the Forge to a very high standard even keeping some of the original features. Even though the Forge is in the owners garden it is still very private and you are not disturbed by them in the slightest. Do not let this put you off. The parking is secure and the gardens and surroundings are immaculate. The hosts left us a welcome pack which was gratefully received and a lovely little touch. Thanks for a great couple of days, hopefully see you again.

Great welcome from the hosts, including a lovely little welcome pack of bread etc. Accommodation superb with an attention to detail everywhere you looked, just like the photographs displayed on the website. Very clean and modern within a superb restoration of original features. Good location to explore the area with plenty of places to visit. No hesitation to book again.

We found Forge cottage immaculately prepared, clean and welcoming.

I noted the quality of the fittings. Bev was very friendly and talked to us several times. We stayed just 4 days but managed good walks in the locality, and a day out to Lavenham (exquisite) and Long Melford. It would be good to return to do more justice to that part of Suffolk, and to enjoy Forge cottage once more.

The Forge is beautifully converted, spotlessly clean, tastefully furnished and very comfortable with very friendly owners, Bev and Graham.

A bonus is the dressing room with plenty of storage. It is set in the owners pretty garden with it's own seating area. We would highly recommend for a peaceful break.

Property owners were friendly and helpful but not intrusive (The Forge is located in the owner's large garden). We enjoyed our stay there very much.

Fabulous conversion of an old forge, very clean and comfortable with lots of storage for clothes.

Only slight minus is the lack of an oven, but with some great places to eat nearby it wasn't too much of a problem.

A lovely conversion of an old building .

It was a great place to spend a relaxing few days.The whole setting was beautifully presented, not only the accommodation but the garden also. The accommodation was spotless.The goodies left for us to enjoy were much appreciated. Bev and Graham were excellent hosts.Thanks for making our holiday so enjoyable.

We really enjoyed our holiday in Suffolk & the Forge is a pleasant & comfortable place to stay.

There are plenty of historic towns & villages to visit & some lovely countryside in the surrounding area. It is also only a short drive to the east coast with the option of lively or more peaceful resorts. Bev & Graham are considerate hosts & were nearby to make sure that everything was okay for us.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Forge - beautiful renovation retaining the character of the building.

Every home comfort provided and a very peaceful location. Bev and Graham are wonderful hosts. Perfect base for exploring all of Suffolk especially the many National Trust properties which we very much enjoyed. Would not hesitate in recommending The Forge to family and friends - absolutely loved our first stay in Suffolk - thank you for making us so welcome.

Utterly delightful cottage - tastefully renovated old forge where the old has seamlessly been blended with the new.

Although not noted as suitable for those with mobility issues, my wheelchair using wife (who can stand and walk just a few meters) managed well. Our Hosts (Bev & Graham) were exceptional, welcomed us in person and a welcome basket of some basics was waiting inside. just 3-4 miles from Stowmarket (a quaint small town, that generally only takes cash) but also with major supermarkets for the larger shops and where cards can be used. Great chineese takeaway 5 min walk and general store/ post office 10 mins walk. As a bonus, the chickens entertained and greeted us outside the rear window each day. Easy drive to Bury St Edmonds, Felixstowe and Norwich. Loved visiting Flatford Mill (Constables Haywain) a short drive down the A12. Thank you for a fab holiday.

Bev showed us around and made us very welcome. The Forge was spotlessly clean throughout and a real pleasure to be there. We were left goodies in the fridge and were able to absolutely relax. We will definitely return Bev, next time without my broken arm

This old forge has been skilfully made into a lovely studio dwelling. Many features have been retained into a modern setting, dressed with elegance and style. We had everything we needed and queries were addressed immediately. It was lovely to have the chickens, hearing them quietly clucking their chats to each other. Old Newton is a good centre from which to explore and there is plenty to do fairly close by. You could not fail to be pleased with your choice of property if you stay at The Forge.

We will definitely be back! It is a lovely little building with lots of clean towels and we didn't need for anything. It was in a lovely little village just 5 minutes from Stowmarket, a good place for visiting the surrounding area of Suffolk and Norfolk The owners explained how everything in the Forge worked. The owners had left us fresh eggs from their own chickens there was milk butter and fresh orange in the fridge and a lovely fresh loaf of bread.
