My 2nd stay at south cottage Will stay again

Great stay, second time staying .

perfect location, lots of on road parking locally ! The only criticism I have (and it’s only minor) is the wheelie bins. They were full on arrival and weren’t emptied during our stay. Speaking to family locally there seem to have been issues with this , so I don’t think best of Suffolk are to blame . Just something to keep an eye on maybe ?

My 3rd time at the cottage which is always very enjoyable.

Quite surprised, the bin situation hasn't been resolved. The main bin was full of flues and full. I noticed the instructions in the guide book still do not explain that the appropriate bin need to be placed at the beginning of the drive for the bin men. This worked as it should during my stay. Also bin collections have changed since my last stay and I found the instructions for that ,shut in a drawer in the tv cabinet.

Small but perfectly formed, and perfectly positioned cottage.

Well equipped if you want to stay in but handy for local pub, and breakfast/lunch place. Also just round the corner from the beach so handy for an early morning dip if that’s your thing!!

This was a lovely cottage in a great area, but needed a bit of tlc, e.

g. Shower cubicle and lounge carpet, also Icebox in fridge was desperate for defrosting.

This was our third stay at South cottages.

Perfect location for us and our dog, being a minute from the beach, close to Aldeburgh, a comfortable, cosy, well equipped but simple cottage ensuring a welcome escape from normal life. We really love coming here. We could see that the property has been very recently redecorated, and was very smart. Nice Christmas decorations up for us. We still think the shower head is way too big for this shower, especially for ladies if you don't want to get your hair wet, and the new toilet seat does not fit the toilet properly! It's an electric toilet seat.... considering how lovely the cottage is, this is silly little blip that stands [or sits] out. We had a lovely stay and would definitely think about coming again. Our only niggle was that we discovered that the recycling bin was full to overflowing with pizza boxes etc, it had obviously not been put out, or dealt with so we had to take some of our recycling home with us! I do appreciate you ask guests to put the bin out, but it looked like no one had done this for weeks, so I do think that in these circumstances the concierge service should deal with it. Not very pleasant to find this. However, we had a super long weekend away and peaceful break.

Booked the cottage as a surprise for my wife.

It was clean warm and comfortable and the village was beautiful and the sea a stone’s throw away would highly recommend

This cottage is in a beautiful location near the beach and the meare.

A nice busy vibe in the daytime and quiet and peaceful in the evening. The cottage has all the facilities you need and is very comfortable.

Beautiful little cottage, with lovely views across the meare.

We enjoyed breakfast each morning sitting out front . Kitchen has everything you could need. Lounge is very cosy and comfy with great views. Bedroom has lovely views and the bed is very comfortable. Thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful deep bath. Highly recommend this cottage,very short walk to beach and only around 30 min walk to Aldeburgh. Can’t wait to go back again

Perfect cottage for myself and the dog.

Close to the sea for early morning swims and lovely walks to Aldeburgh and Sizewell. Would appreciate an outside umbrella for the front and a full length mirror in the bedroom. Especially , as I will most likely stay again. This was my 2nd time staying in South Cottages

Clean and well equipped easy to access Quiet and Peaceful Stairs would be difficult for anyone with mobility problems but we didn’t know that there was a small room in a converted garage on the same site with a mobility bathroom and bedroom Easy access to beach and restaurants Our stay was effortless and very enjoyable thank you

Arrived at the check in time to find the house had not been cleaned,bed made !

! After several calls to numbers provided leaving voicemail cleaners arrived and we had to wait outside for an hour while the house was cleaned. Not a nice start to our weekend break

What a lovely cottage, had everything we needed.

We were lucky with the weather and it was nice to be able to sit out and enjoy the sunshine on the front patio ( maybe a parasol would be a nice touch ). Many thanks for the generous welcome pack it was much appreciated. We would definitely recommend and return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this cosy, comfortable cottage.

It was the perfect retreat to return to after exploring the villages and market towns of Suffolk. The cottage is well equipped and situated in a beautiful and peaceful location close to the beach.

We had a lovely stay - I did not know Suffolk at all till our visit, and 1 South Cottages was a great base to explore from.

The cottage itself is so well situated - very close to the beach, and also close to the village cafes (and pub!) and with great walks for the dog on the nearby heathlands. The house had everything we needed and was very comfortable.

Loved walking to Aldeburgh, lots of wet fish sellers & quirky independent shops.

Good food in Thorpeness Kitchen opposite. Easily found keysafe at rear of property. The key opens the back door only, not the front door (locked & bolted from inside). There is no freezer, except ice box in freezer. Stair treads were very narrow & steep, compact kitchen, inevitable due to layout of old cottage. No problem with on street parking.

The cottage was snug and cozy, with everything we needed.

It was ideally situated with the beach, meare, cafe and pub all close by. It was clean, warm and welcoming on our arrival, with a very nice welcome pack. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and wouldn't hesitate to book again. Thank you.

This was our second visit to 1 South cottages.

It's perfect for us and dog! Very cosy, and warm [despite storm Darraugh] well equipped, and a fantastic location close to the beach and quiet. Both visits provided real R&R from work tension. Thank you for the lovely welcome basket on the kitchen table. Bed very comfortable and lovely hotel level towels. Somehow the cleaning service forgot to put a pillow case on one of the pillows, and the pillow protector looked a little marked- which was not so nice to see- but as we only needed one pillow each that was fine. [i put it on top of the wardrobe.] We loved the christmas tree and associated decoration in the sitting room, that made it feel welcoming too. The stairs are steep, we knew this, and we are very mobile so no issue for us. We were pleased they had been attended to since our last visit, and were more sturdy and had even been carpeted. The Latter did make the treads even narrower but as I said we have no mobility issues with feet, hips or knees. I think if we did, either we'd have to sleep in the gust room opposite the courtyard, or this would not be ideal place for us. We had one problem in that the drains in the bathroom were very smelly after a shower , but particularly with the bath. I took a bath just once on last day. As I sank into the warm bubbles, an awful smell came up through the overflow. I just could not stay in it; it was awful. If this is a new problem i am certain someone will sort the trap out, but it was a pretty bad smell and needs attention asap! Overall a super little cottage, and an enjoyable stay.

A brilliantly situated cottage, would highly recommend

A lovely property which is very conveniently located for the beach, mere, pub, and cafes.

Comfortable and characterful with pretty much everything you might need. It has good walking from the door, decent wifi, and a very comfortable bed. Parking outside at this time of year (October) was not a problem. A couple of points, however. The listing could make it clearer that the stairs also have narrow treads which may cause problems for those with balance issues or creaky knees (at the moment this is buried in the detailed text). The lack of cleaning equipment (hoover, floor mop) made it difficult to leave the property as I would usually like (dog hair is hard to remove with a dustpan and brush). Finally, a few more mugs, a colander, and a couple of baking trays would finish the kitchen equipment nicely.

Great location and I loved the cottage!

It was disappointing to only have a choice of 5 TV channels despite there being a Sky box. Will definitely be rebooking though.

We had a lovely time enjoying the meer, beach and the excellent local pub all a short walk from the cottage. We will certainly return!

We visited at a time of year (6th October 2023) when the nights were drawing in and the temperatures generally were falling back.

The accommodation became rather chilly in the evenings and it proved impossible to turn the heating up as per the instruction in the site folder. I doubt if the central heating boiler was even switched on. Irrespective of the ambient temperature if there is a heating system in the property it should be possible to turn it on as required.

The cottage is comfortable, well-appointed, and maintained to a high standard.

Always deep cleaned for arrival with a nice welcome pack and useful information/instructions folder. Everything works (with a local contact if anything doesn't, which, we have only needed to use once, for advice about an IT issue, which was quickly resolved). In character with the cottage, the stairs have rather steep risers and shallow treads, which one soon adapts to, and with normal care, and use of the decent handrail, are not really a problem. The corner position, with the two lounge windows, provides a pleasing view across to the Mere and life going by, generally. All in all a very pleasant, restful and comfortable place to stay, to which we have returned severel times before and will continue to do so, hopefully.

Really enjoyed my stay.

Perfect size for myself and dog. I am thinking of booking for next year but would like to know how much extra it is for the annexe. I think some of the instruction manual needs updating particularly for the TV. Instructions for turning it on were wrong and so was the extra note that was left at the cottage during my stay. I knew how it should work as my daughter has the same set up and it's very simple. All in all though cottage was lovely, clean and well equipped. I appreciated being quite close to the beach to enable quick dash to the beach for an early morning and evening swim

It was just perfect.

I arrived very tired and found I settled in really quickly. All instructions were clear, the place was spotless and I had a wonderful time. Hope to be back!

Lovely clean and comfortable little cottage, ideally situated for the beach and walks etc and the perfect spot for sitting in the little front garden and watching the world go by.

We were fortunate to have wall to wall sunshine during our stay and a small garden parasol would have been appreciated as the front garden is a little Sun trap. The welcome pack was appreciated and we will definitely be back for another stay.

Beautiful, comfortable and well equipped cottage in an ideal location for visiting attractions along the Suffolk coast.

A delightful cottage near the beach which was perfect for our holiday.

The cottage was clean, warm and very comfortable. The wine etc was gratefully received-thank you. The proximity to the sea was wonderful and the fine weather a bonus. The only drawback was the very steep and narrow staircase, which was difficult to navigate if carrying any item. Whilst it did not spoil our stay I think it would be helpful to mention this in the description as a warning to older people We did our best to leave the cottage as clean as on arrival but could find no hoover, broom, dusters or cleaning products. This is one of the nicest cottages we have stayed in and the best holiday we've had for years!
