Poppy Cottage

This was our second visit to Poppy Cottage which was just as good as the first.

Beautifully appointed, comfortable and clean. The location is just right - quiet apart from the odd seagull! Thank you we will definitely be back!

All very nice and clean/comfortable.

I'd recommend adding a couple of sun loungers to the garden/yard.

Had a lovely week at Poppy Cottage with our 2 dogs.

It was a beautiful house with everything needed for our holiday. Although small it has been renovated very cleverly so that there a space for everything, we felt very ‘at home’ here and would stay again if we came back to Southwold. Location was perfect with town and beech on doorstep. We were able to park fairly close to cottage each time we moved car, which wasn’t that often as Southwold is beautiful. The only downside was the sofa wasn’t very comfy (mentioned by others). We had an issue with the shelf in the bathroom , which was attached directly to the glass. We didn’t realise it wasn’t stable and when items placed on there it caused the glass to crack. Reported straight away but never received feedback. The maintenance team would have noticed the shelf was unstable when preparing cottage each time so we felt this was preventable. None of this spoiled our holiday

Poppy cottage was a real find.

Perfect location, light and airy, well equipped and very comfortable. Would happily stay again.

Cottage is small but adequate for 2 adults and our small dog.

On the plus side the location for beach and town is brilliant, and off the road down an alley is great. On the minus side, the kitchen is small, the sofa Isla’s comfortable as it looked. Out of the owners control, there was building work going on across the alley and on the Monday scaffolding was being moved from 8am until nightfall.

In my opinion, the accommodation was exactly as advertised with plenty of crockery, cutlery and utensils for the three of us.

The double bed was comfortable, the bathroom and shower clean and acceptable. The heating definitely worked and very quickly made a difference and if there is any downside, it would be the sofa not being the most comfortable but this really is a small downside observation.

Poppy Cottage is an absolute delight and felt like a real home away from home.

Its location is breathtaking and a real bonus that it is a few metres along an alley way from the road and so minimal disturbance for the dogs. The decor, electrical appliances and furniture are all beautiful and high quality. Without doubt our best holiday place in Southwold and the surrounding area and we are already planning on a return trip for 2026!

A really nice cottage and parking was surprisingly easy with EV charging available at the end of the road at Adnams brewery.

The cottage was comfortable and well equipped and we loved Southwold. I can recommend the brewery tour.

Great stay, superb location, well kitted out, comfortable beds.

Only comment was that the sofa really isn't that comfortable. Parking wasn't a problem for us in early July but I guess it might be in the peak summer (that said not that far a walk if parked on the common)

Had a good few days stay in the cottage.

It was as described and had no issues with the accommodation. Only drawback was the lavk of parking spaces in the street, we did eventually find a spot further up the street.

Lovely stay at Poppy Cottage.

I modern very clean cottage. The sofa and bed though weren't the most comfortable. Managed to park on the same street eventually, I can imagine in mid summer this may be a problem. All in all though we had a lovely time, the weather was perfect and there are nice shops and pubs to enjoy in Southwold.

Very well equipped cottage, comfy king size bed and had everything we needed for a few days away.

This was our 5th stay in Southwold and our second time at Poppy Cottage.

We love it here and the cottage is perfect for us as a family, we have already looked at availability for our next stay at Poppy Cottage. It’s is so clean, cosy and the location is perfect. It has everything we need and we look forward to returning!

Good property, comfortable for four of us and blessed with good weather been to Southwold many times.

Point to note very sharp edge on shower screen adult daughter sustained a large gnash on leg.

Lovely cottage in fantastic location.

Perfect size for 2 adults and toddler. Good size sitting room, practical kitchen with everything you need, nice downstairs cloakroom (with washing machine), very good bathroom with Velux window (you can hear the sea when open!), very comfortable bedrooms. Good size patio out back which becomes a sun spot - really relaxing. Really sleepy cottage, with excellent feel. A lot of thought has gone into providing guests with everything they need, so I would recommend, and we hope to stay again. If there was only one criticism; I'm sure guests would appreciate the standard milk, butter, bread on arrival. Final touch would make this property excellent.

The location is amazing just a minute to the beach and into town.

Beautifully designed cottage and great location.

Comfortable bed and good storage in the main bedroom. Few niggles: Sofa is uncomfortable Bottle bank is not where the cottage info said! Table too close to the fridge so difficult to get to fridge easily. Pyrex jug and bowls would be helpful - also a cupboard free to store groceries etc. Kettle needs descaling asap! Other than that we loved it!!

Bearing in mind you have cleaners going in once the property is vacated, we were disappointed to find a large cobweb underneath one of the kitchen cupboards and a large dust ball hanging from the underneath of the landing radiator.

Generally speaking, the property was of an acceptable clean standard. With regards to the appliances in the kitchen, all worked properly, however, in our opinion the dishwasher was too small given that four people can stay in the cottage. With regards to the main bathroom, our only comment is the glass shelf above the wash basin is positioned in an almost dangerous position when one wants to bend to rinse their mouth for example - one has to actually duck your head underneath the shelf to access the basin properly. Bed was very comfortable, but alas, the sofa was on the hard side and not particularly comfortable to sit on. The welcome pack does need to be updated to include the correct information regarding the recycling bottle bank location and also the fact the recycling bins are only collected on a fortnightly basis rotating with the general waste bin. Regarding the above, we did enjoy our time at Poppy Cottage, neighbours were lovely and welcoming - location was great. We look forward to returning.

The sofa was like sitting on a board.

No room in kitchen to store food in cupboards. Bins were overflowing outside.

Gorgeous cottage, great location.

So close to the beach, The Lord Nelson and the shops. Only wish it had a cafeteria and then it would be 10s all round! I would still go back!

The property is located in a really quiet spot, tucked away down an alley, which aided peaceful sleeping.

It’s nice and cozy, with excellent heating, very welcoming in a chilly December.

Good facilities, comfy bed with plenty of storage for clothing. Might be a good idea to put a drip tray inside the front door for muddy/sandy boots. Southwold is gorgeous so we had a very relaxing stay. Thank you.

A lovely place to stay, clean, private and near to everything we wanted to see and do.

Just how nice Poppy Cottage is doesn’t really come across in the bio.

The location is absolutely perfect and we have already decided this will be our first choice accommodation for future visits to Southwold. The housekeepers left the cottage spotless, thank you. Thanks also for the wine and biscuits! Most welcome. A deadlock on the front door for extra security would be nice as would a second set of keys. All in all we enjoyed a lovely week!

Very nice and clean cottage, in a great location.

Everything we needed for a family of four plus dog! We particularly appreciated the flexibility the owner showed! This was very much noticed and welcomed!

We loved the town, we loved the property and would definitely visit again.

I would have scored 5 on all areas except that when the front door accidently slammed shut (due to wind) there was no second key provision and we all got drenched for over 2 hours until help arrived. Lovely place even if parking is a exercise in luck. Hope you like seagulls

Lovely cottage, well equipped, very close to centre of Southwold.

We enjoyed our stay and had no problem finding somewhere to park each night.

Poppy Cottage has been refurbished to an extremely high standard.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay very much because it was so comfortable and its location to the shops and beach and pier so convenient. Parking was so easy even when none was to be found in Victoria St. Now some bad points. None of the locks on internal doors work to hold the door shut except the lounge door. Even the privacy locks on the WC and bathroom do not engage so no privacy ! Front and back door have to be slammed very hard to engage the locks on exit. User manuals for kitchen equipment were not to be found even in the location mentioned in the guide book.

Little problem that the shower wasn’t working but it was dealt with promptly.

Will definitely go back again
