“Nice little cottage and centrally located in Orford Clean and nicely fitted out.”

Bed was comfortable Everything we needed was supplied, tea, sugar, milk, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets etc. On the downside was a washing machine with sticker on that it was broken, not sure how long that had been for!! The shower was either red hot or cold and the feature clock in the kitchen was broken

“Great central location in Orford.”

Things were just not as clean as they should be . For instance cutlery in the drawer was not clean and the cutlery draw was grubby, we cleaned them. A splash of paint wouldn't go amiss.

“Everything was wonderful.”

The layout, the furnishings, all top notch. We thoroughly enjoyed having the fireplace (with plenty of firewood included) to relax and enjoy our after-Christmas break. The only negative for us is that the mattress was quite firm and we both found sleep difficult and had achy backs after. My wife and I have bad backs, so we are extra sensitive, so this may not be an issue for others, which is why I gave all top marks. Nice little village with choices of places to eat or drink and leisurely walks.

“We were looking for a quiet, small place for our honeymoon and settled on Aro Cottage in Orford -neither had been to Orford but will definitely be back to the village and the cottage.”

Exactly as it was set out in the description - tastefully decorated and with possibly the comfiest sofa found in a holiday home so far. Parking conveniently around the corner and a foodie paradise with the Pump Street Bakery, The King’s Head, The Jolly Sailor and superb Crown & Castle. The Quayside tearooms are also worth a visit. Don’t turn the light on when visiting the bathroom at night - the dark skies ensure a fabulous view of stars you can’t normally see in an urban area. A wonderful, restful week…loved it!

“Nice cottage in a good location.”

Shower is a bit temperamental and difficult to avoid flooding the floor, could probably do with a re-think. Very clean and well appointed and wine, biscuits and milk were a nice touch. Huge benefit in having the outdoor area to sit in.

“Lovely property done to a really high standard, with a generously sized kitchen bedroom and bathroom that it was easy to quickly feel comfortable and at home in for a week.”

Very handedly located for all of Orford’s lovely amenities, and never any problem parking. Was disappointing to not get any welcome pack at all as others seem to have had, not even a pint of milk. Do note, the stairs are indeed quite narrow and very steep so consider this if you have mobility issues. The front door and windows were dusty, but as we realised later so was everywhere else obviously from a recent sandstorm blowing in. As others have said, might be good to level the back patio to make it more usable with the table and chairs. We had read previous reviews we moved to the toaster to avoid setting off the smoke alarm. We chose to extend our stay by a couple of days as that was an option, but were rather stung by Syke’s £40 admin fee and another £40 for the cancellation insurance extension, even though we were already on holiday in the property. They said it was something that couldn’t be avoided, but I’m sure the terms could be altered by Sykes to benefit customers.

“A beautiful cottage, great facilities - had everything we needed.”

Perfect location for walks, pubs, and plenty of places to explore. The games were in a draw in the bedroom, we didn't find them until the last night. Maybe place them on a shelf in the lounge. The back gate/ door was great to come and go with our dog, we put our wellies under the shelter with the BBQ.

“Cottage is in a great location - perfect for breakfast at the fabulous Pump st cafe.”

Space is perfect for 2 and kitchen is very well equipped. Bed is very comfortable but the pillows desperately need replacing - full of lumps. Would have been useful to have some house advice - no directions left about rubbish/recycling and Wi-Fi password not given - we searched and found it in cupboard under the stairs using a torch but would have been helpful to just have it left out. Otherwise a great little cottage.

“The smoke alarm in the kitchen went off about 10 times in our stay.”

It is located right above the oven and cooking area. Everything set it off - toast, opening the oven door at all. It needs to be moved. It put us off cooking. The water was not hot enough for a shower or bath. It was only by accident that the owner had to come around due to a leak and told us to turn on the immersion . It was then hot enough but that was 2 days in. This should be an instruction in the manual. Last thing - you need somewhere to have coats and put boots etc. walking is a natural pass time in Suffolk. Maybe in the kitchen where there is space Otherwise a lovely cottage, very nicely done. The smoke alarm would put be off coming back though which is a shame Thanks

Everything works perfectly and the fire is great too. Also right next to pump street bakery which is a massive treat. I spent 3 weeks here as I was working and it was the perfect solution rather than a hotel. Would def recommend

On the ground floor you enter into the homely sitting room complete with wood-burning stove, from the sitting room you enter the extended kitchen/dining room complete with bi-fold doors taking you out onto the patio garden. Cottage style stairs lead up to the first floor with stylish king size bedroom, and luxurious bathroom featuring a gorgeous freestanding bath and walk in rainfall shower. Ground Floor Entering from Castle Lane into the sitting room. Hard flooring leads throughout the ground floor. Sitting Room This bright and charismatic room is the perfect space to sit back and relax. There is a stylish two seater sofa and armchair to sit and enjoy the 42'' Smart TV. The wood-burning stove provides a cosy atmosphere in the winter months. Kitchen/Dining Room A bright and airy space with light oozing through the bi-fold doors and lantern. In the morning the sunrise fills this room. A wonderful space to cook up some culinary delights, and sit back and enjoy a special meal. The modern kitchen with beautiful copper detailing has everything you could possibly need, including an electric oven with four ring induction hob, fridge with icebox freezer, slimline dishwasher, Nespresso Krups coffee machine, kettle and toaster. Meals can be enjoyed either up the breakfast bar, or at the glass dining table. In the summer months open up the bi-fold doors and allow the outside to come in. Snape Maltings 5 miles; Woodbridge 12 miles;

The attractive, unspoiled fishing village of Orford is situated on the bank of the River Alde and looked over by its magnificent 12th century castle built by Henry II. The village is home to a hotel and restaurant, two pubs, village store, bakers and wonderful fish restaurant and smokehouse. Orford is surrounded by farm land and forest in an area known as the Suffolk Coasts and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Centrally located, just 12 miles from Woodbridge to the south and Aldeburgh to the north, and just 5 miles from the famous Snape Maltings complex. The village of Orford is steeped in history. Henry II commissioned a castle to be built in the 12th century which is a must see when you visit the area. Owned and maintained by English Heritage you can enjoy this wonderful 'keep' and from the top there are breathtaking views for miles on a clear day.
