Church Farm Cottage, Dunwich

Fairly minor items we would have liked.

Lack of clothes hanging facilities, a teapot and small saucepan spring to mind. On the maintenance front it was unfortunate that the full length window in the small bedroom had been shattered prior to our occupation. However these shortcomings were far outweighed by the overall comfort and facilities and the location which was perfect.

The fact that we have stayed here many times must speak volumes for everything about it!

Ideally located for walking and cycling. We heard nightingales every day which was a real bonus this year. One tiny problem, no oven user manual, but managed to track one down online.

Lovely clean and comfortable cottage.

Ideal for two or three for a short stay but probably only two for a longer stay as there are no wardrobes as no space for them in the bedrooms. Didn't realise our dog wouldn't be able to use the garden at the back but it wasn't a problem. Only issue we had which is a minor one, is that the fire alarm kept going off every time we used the toaster despite us emptying the crumbs out. Dunwich is a lovely quiet village with a good pub and cafe on the beach. Really enjoyed our stay there.

Excellent location with beach, nature reserves, bridleways & footpaths easily accessible.

Quiet, private & not overlooked despite being attached to main house, tucked behind other buildings. Mattress & pillows very comfy, single room useful as dressing room. Kitchen needed more equipment if cooking in : e.g. no pint glasses for local ale (!) no casserole, roasting tin, a third saucepan… but plenty of excellent local pubs. No air tight lidded containers. Gift of juice & biscuits nice touch but would have preferred kitchen roll & foil. Layout of living room furniture and bright rug has changed since photo. Nice Orla Kiely blinds etc. Settee quite difficult to sit comfortably on & we used pillows as cushions. Everywhere very clean, uncluttered therefore quick & easy to tidy up at end of stay. Perfect location for everything we planned to see and do. Would recommend for couples.

Lovely cottage in an excellent location.

Very cosy & comfortable was perfect for the 2 of us plus our dog. Only criticism we have , & it's very small , is that there were no salt & pepper shakers/ Mills. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay & will definitely book again.

Lovely cottage, but not quite right for us.

Ample parking is a bonus in Dunwich, and the cottage, although small, is comfortable and well equipped. Location couldn't be better. We had 2 major issues, which may not be a problem for other renters. The listing details do not make it clear that the small bedroom is accessed through the large one, and that all the facilities for storing clothes are in the small bedroom: in effect this is a one bedroom cottage. It is challenging for people with mobility difficulties, as the stiff gate and 2 steps from the parking area to the garden are difficult to negotiate, and the shower is impossible for less mobile people to use. I would happily return to the cottage again by myself or with a partner, but it was not an easy stay for my friend, who has mobility difficulties.

lovely location and plenty to see all around.

I had already phoned sykes about how the back garden would work for us with our dog and was assured that it would be ok. There is a large fenced area at the back when we arrived it was nothing like the pictures shown. On pictures it was a large lawn. in reality it is unsightly full of dead weeds and brambles and nettles and broken fencing and PRIVATE. this is NOt how it was described. Although the property was clean it is shabby and needs repainting in a few places. The fridge is small with a ice box which was totally iced up and not practical for a RURAL self catering property. Shame really I wouldn"t reccomend it to freinds even though it is in a lovely setting.

Our 2nd visit to this ideally situated cottage .

The let is close to the beach, beach cafe, nature reserves, walk , pub and tea room. Perfect for 2 people. Well equipped including Nespresso coffee machine, just take your own pods. Loved the wine and cake on arrival. We'll definitely be back for more beach walks

Lovely location and we liked having the garden fenced off as it meant our 2 year old could run around safely.

However, the house was filthy. We were so disappointed, we expected the house to be a little damp but even the bed and bed linen felt damp. The floors were so dirty, defiantly not seen a mop in a while. We decided to cut our stay short as it was just too dirty for us, especially our little one with him picking bits up off the floors.

Awful , dreadful , dirty and not well maintained .

Sykes offered £50 refund - not acceptable.

The cottage was nice and very pleased that’s it’s all in one level. You can park the car near, easy for unloading. The cottage itself is pleasant enough but does need a bit of decorating. Overall quite nice. Eye

Good location, comfortable bed and good shower.

However the property is now in a tired state, as described in other reviews, in need of some TLC. For the price it is not good value compared to other properties in the area.

Nowhere to hang or store clothes in main bedroom.

Bath slippery if used as shower, no higher level hand holds. "Gardens" poorly maintained and limited access. General maintenance poor: doors not fitting, wall paint peeling. Heating erratic and temperature control poor. Kitchen lacking basic equipment: washing-up bowl, scissors, no recycling bin. Only one spare loo roll provided. Sitting room lighting poor and shortage of power sockets. Reading lamp unstable. Kitchen tongs broken, wine glass cracked, water filter expired. Bathroom window glazed with clear glass, overlooked by neighbouring property. Generally we were disappointed with the accommodation.

A lovely little cottage in a beautiful setting, very close to the beach and Suffolk coastal path.

A peaceful place to stay, perfect for walks and exploring the east coast towns and villages.

Spotlessly clean and cosy. Very convenient for walks and the beach. Very tucked away - it took a while to find it. Very quiet and peaceful.

Very comfortable cottage, but needing a bit more care on basic items.

Exterior light does not work, due to broken switch in hall. Lighting in sitting room poor. Light bulbs either side of tv too glaring and bright. Need to be replaced with soft white bulbs. Lights above sofa stuck on dim as dimmer switch does not work. Kitchen very well equipped, but a colander and a pair of kitchen scissors would help. Lovely comfortable sofa and gorgeous bed. Slept so well. Thank you. Best vacuum cleaner we have ever encountered in a holiday let. We appreciate that it's early in the season, but when we sat outside, the impression was of a lack of attention to the exterior area. Not a pleasant place to sit. It just looked unkempt. All this sounds very critical, but it's a lovely cottage, and could be so much better if more attention was paid to the little things.

Superb location in a beautiful area perfect for visiting Minsmere nature reserve with lots of walks from the doorstep.

Delightful bungalow in quiet setting.

Lots of walks direct from the front door, lots of birds to see and hear. Have already booked for next year!

We booked the cottage after viewing the photos and reading the reviews.

There were two of us plus our spaniel. The cottage was very clean and comfortable (the super king size bed especially). The owner had left us some hot cross buns, cake, milk and a bottle of fizz which was very generous. However, the photos and description indicate that we had access to the rear garden, but there were ‘Private’ signs on the main and side gate which prevented access. Fortunately there is an enclosed garden at the front of the property so the dog did have somewhere. Dogs are not allowed on the sofa or in the bedrooms which is not mentioned in the description. The location is perfect with a dog friendly beach (and cafe) a 10min walk, and a pub 5mins away. A great base for exploring the Suffolk coast.

A very warm clean and comfortable cottage.

The bed was a particularly welcomed feature as sometimes these tend to be a bit small. This was exactly as billed super king sized and very comfy. The kitchen was well equipped and there was good secure outside space for our labrador.

The cottage was nicely furnished, had comfy beds and a well equipped kitchen and it was really quiet. A five minute walk to the beach and pub with great walks in every direction. Claire, the owner, left us milk, wine and mince pies which was a lovely touch. Great location for visiting the many lovely coastal towns and villages. Highly recommended

Our third stay at church farm cottage.

Perfect location for a relaxing break within walking distance of the beach & local pub the Ship Inn.

Cosy cottage with lovely furnishings & a very comfy bed. It was ideal for us as a couple & our little dog. Would have no hesitation in booking again.
