“The caravan is in a poor state of repair in places: The steps to enter the caravan are very rickety - with the first step being a death trap.”
The owner looked at this during our stay with no action taken to make it safe: Windows marked as fire escapes did not open! What is concerning is the health and safety implication of these issues.
The Caravan was also dirty up on arrival and infested with insects, which negatively impacted the stay. The owners are aware of this as there are plenty of insect spray and fly swotters left at the caravan.
The caravan is large and is on a nice site with shops, cafes, attractions for children and there’s lots of different things to do around and about.
This late review appears to be retaliation for owner's request after your stay for damage costs. Steps were looked at by decking company not the owner who texted you to say they were attending and are now awaiting repair. At no time did you mention any issues during your stay. This Lodge (it is not a caravan) has always been cleaned and left spotless. Cleaner very upset at this remark as nothing elaborated further. One window handle in bedroom has been found broken presumably by a previous guest and is awaiting replacement. An issue with flies was encountered due to excessive heat and cleaned when the previous guests left. The problem was common everywhere for a short period of time and the lodge is surrounded by fields and lakes.
One spray can and 1 swotter was left at the property, not excessive. Window, steps, ripped curtain, broken outside table and other damage have sadly been caused (albeit accidentally) by previous guests and not reported then found by subsequent guests leading unfairly to complaints and bad reviews. Booking did not mention child staying or that an electric lead would be placed through a window to charge an electric car all week incurring further electric consumption.
