Coastline Clean-up for Cancer Charity

Cancer Campaign in Suffolk, Best of Suffolk and Rubbish Walks are teaming up later in the year for a very special 5-day event which will see them raise funds and help the local environment all at once.

As part of the Great British Beach Clean which takes place annually every September, volunteers from the three companies will be donating their time and energy to take part in a coastal sponsored litter pick.

Covering a different beach each day, starting with Southwold on Monday 18 September, then to Walberswick, Dunwich, Thorpeness and finally finishing at Aldeburgh on the last day of Friday 22 September.

Best of Suffolk Litter Pick

Best of Suffolk, a holiday letting agency representing 300 holiday cottages in the county, made Cancer Campaign in Suffolk their Charity of the Year for 2023.  The sponsored coastal litter pick combines an opportunity to raise funds for the charity and to help clear the coastline.

Abi Charter, Marketing Manager at Best of Suffolk comments

“Our local team of holiday experts cannot wait to get out litter picking! The glorious county of Suffolk has welcomed many of our wonderful holiday makers and its stunning coast has created so many happy memories.  Best of Suffolk would like to do nothing more than help keep these beaches clear of litter, help the environment, and at the same time, raise much-needed funds for CCiS.”

With a fundraising target of £250, whatever is raised from kind donations from family, friends, and supporters of CCiS, Best of Suffolk will match as part of their commitment to the charity.

Stephen Lord, Fundraiser & Ambassador for Cancer Campaign in Suffolk speaks of how the funds raised will help those affected by cancer locally.

We were thrilled to be chosen as Best of Suffolk charity of the year and this fundraising event is not only good for the environment but also raises much needed funds to help us continue to support people in Suffolk who have had a cancer diagnosis with counselling and complementary therapy to help with the mental trauma and side effects diagnosis and treatment can have.”

Jason Alexander, of social enterprise Rubbish Walks has set the bar incredibly high.  He has taken part in grueling 24-hour litter picks raising funds for the same charity. Jason will be leading the teams from Best of Suffolk and Cancer Campaign in Suffolk over the 5-day coastal clear-up. The accumulated rubbish will be counted and sorted for recycling so we can quantify the impact.

“Litter-picking five beaches at the end of the busy summer season should mean we collect a fair bit of rubbish. After the five days we will count every piece of rubbish collected. We can then showcase the impact a litter pick can have on the natural environment.”

To find out more, or to sponsor the beach clean please donate what you can to help CCiS keep doing all their fabulous and essential work.
