The Women’s Soft Ball Cricket Festival
The Best of Suffolk ladies joined forces last night and took part in the Women’s Soft Ball Cricket Festival, held at Yoxford Cricket Club.
What is Women’s Soft Ball Cricket?
Organised by the England and Wales Cricket Broad, and Suffolk Cricket the Women’s Soft Ball Cricket Festival was a huge hit! According to their website we were going to “Whack some balls, bowl some balls, catch some balls. Run about a bit, laugh more than is good for you. Repeat.”
Women’s Soft Ball Cricket is about getting out and playing: maximum fun, minimum fuss. No pads, no hard ball, no heavy bat, no head-scratching rules. It’s a game for absolutely everybody, no matter your skill level, fitness, or age. Playing time at Festivals is usually about two to four hours, so it never gets boring!
How Did Best of Suffolk Ladies Do?
It was an evening of laughs, socialising, wickets, runs and the odd dropped catch.
Taking on two of the other three teams were Leah, Claire, Hannah, Nicky, Iona and Abi. The Best of Suffolk ladies took to the field to take on the friendly competition, all wearing their Best of Suffolk t-shirts with pride.
It was all about the taking part and not the results. But with 4’s and 6’s and the rare appeal of an LBW from the boundary, it felt like the cricket World Cup had arrived in Suffolk!
It Was All About the Crowd!
Supported by colleagues, friends, family and dogs, it was an evening that will be remembered for many reasons. Mainly the cricket buzz in the office the next morning!
The boundary consisted of supporters, coaching (experienced and non experienced – namely Matthew) and children playing. Obviously it just wouldn’t be cricket without Pimms and Fizz!
So Will They be Playing Again?
Team Captain Claire comments “We had a brilliant time. Wonderful fun, great atmosphere and so welcoming! Anyone can take part and have fun. We’re definitely going to play again!”. The next fixture is being lined up immediately (ideally at Lords, the home of cricket).
The summer of cricket is in full swing (excuse the pun!) thanks to The World Cup and The Ashes. Cricket was certainly at it’s best in Suffolk last night! So for us, the real winner was the Soft Ball Cricket Festival.
The Yoxford Cricket Club field was looking stunning on a warm and sunny evening in late June. Just down the road from Best of Suffolk HQ in Badingham, the team’s trip to Yoxford involved driving through this charming village. The King’s Head, The Griffin pub and Mains restaurant tempting us along the way!
Yoxford is also home to a number of intriguing antique shops, including Yoxford Antiques Centre – home to a charming collection of vintage, retro and classic antique dealers. 4 Wolsey Cottages in Yoxford would make an ideal base for a stay in Suffolk!
