Winter is one of our favourite times in Suffolk. At the drop of a hat Naomi and I scoop up our beloved Jack Russell, Rosie, jump in our old Land Rover and head off for a bracing walk!
At this time of year the Suffolk countryside takes on a magisterial beauty, all of its own. We love the bustle of Suffolk in the summer, but at this time of year, with less people about, there is more space to enjoy the aesthetic and atmosphere of winter.
One of our favourite walks, known since I was a child, is from the Eels Foot Inn in Eastbridge, around Minsmere, taking in heaths, beaches, meadows, marshes and woodland. The whole walk, a lap around our internationally renowned nature reserve, takes a couple of hours and of course is fuelled by the prospect of a log fire, pint of Adnams and hearty lunch at the pub afterwards.
So we started full of vim and vigor, enjoyed the very best of Suffolk landscapes and finished repleat and happy…with a very satisfied small dog!
