Situated on the east coast of England, Suffolk is a county filled with natural beauty, bordered by 50 miles of glorious coastline and topped with breathtaking skies. Suffolk is the perfect family holiday destination, full of charming villages and medieval towns that draw in artists and writers. Moreover, its bounty of great produce and restaurants make it a special spot for foodies.

Suffolk cottage holidays by the seaside

Suffolk is renowned for its 50 miles of diverse coastline, much of which is undeveloped and within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Here at Best of Suffolk we have a number of Suffolk cottage holidays by the sea, providing sea views and easy access to sandy beaches.

Southwold is one of the best-known Suffolk towns. It is your quintessential British seaside town, complete with Victorian pier and lighthouse. With its sandy beach, beach huts lining the promenade and thriving market town atmosphere, Southwold is the perfect destination for young and old, families and couples. Here at Best of Suffolk, we even have Southwold beach huts for hire, giving you a base by the sea to compliment your stay on the Suffolk coast.

Aldeburgh is another perfect location for your Suffolk cottage holiday. Its coastal location is an obvious attraction, but Aldeburgh has far more to offer than just a stunning beach and sea views! With art galleries, craft and antique shops, an independent cinema, the Jubilee Hall and hosting the annual Aldeburgh Literary Festival, what more could you want?!

In addition, Aldeburgh is a foodie paradise; home to reputably the best fish and chip shop in the country, as well as an award-winning delicatessen! Check out our Aldeburgh area guide for more information, as well as details of our impressive collection of holiday cottages in Aldeburgh.

The lesser-known coastal locations are equally beautiful, with an undiscovered charm.

Stay at one of our holiday cottages in Orford and explore this enchanting village. Orford possesses an unexpected bounty of foodie delights and a depth of folklore surrounds its unique castle. When the weather permits, find endless enjoyment crabbing with friends and family in this tiny fishing village.

Created as a private fantasy holiday village in the 1910s, Thorpeness retains its fairy-tale charm and is popular throughout the year. The village is dominated now by a Peter-Pan-inspired boating lake and the quirky ‘House-in-the-Clouds’, a unique water tower with a house on top, as well as a heathland Golf course and Country Club. All this makes Thorpeness the perfect holiday retreat. Choose to stay in one of our holiday cottages in Thorpeness to best experience this wonderfully wacky and unique location.

Market Towns

Bury St. Edmunds

In addition to fascinating history, Bury is also home to various events, fantastic shopping, the Greene King Brewery and award-winning restaurants, including the only Michelin starred restaurant in Suffolk.

Another jewel in Suffolk’s crown is Woodbridge. This riverside market town is brimming with character and history. You can choose between browsing the excellent boutique shops or enjoying a walk along the footpath by the river Deben and enjoying the stunning views.

Woodbridge town is closely associated with the most important Anglo Saxon site in the UK, Sutton Hoo, and also has a history of rope-making, sail-making and boat building. In fact, Sir Francis Drake had his fighting ships built at Woodbridge. With so much to do and enjoy, how could you say no to a holiday in Woodbridge?!

Although mostly famous in recent times for being Ed Sheeran’s childhood home, a holiday in Framlingham promises much more to be discovered.
