Once a simple fish store behind a prosperous fish shop on the high street (now a thriving book shop), this colourful and quirky holiday cottage is full of surprises, with an exceptional attention to detail, unique furnishings and quality accessories. A double bed sits in the cosy bedroom on the ground floor, under shuttered windows and next to a compact shower room. The extremely steep stairs (only recommended for agile guests!) take you to the snug living space; cleverly designed to relax in front of the wood burner or prepare and enjoy a light meal in the comfort of your holiday home.
Ground floor
The front door opens off a courtyard shared with the neighbouring holiday home, Meant To Be, which can be booked in conjunction with The Fish Store to accommodate four guests. Steep stairs rise ahead of you, there’s space to hang coats and leave footwear and the shower room is to the left, with door to the bedroom.
Shower Room
Unusually, the shower room is part of the entrance to this unique holiday cottage, shielded by a curtain for privacy and it is well equipped with a quality corner shower, washbasin, WC and heated towel rail.
Bedroom
A charming room with double bed under the window, a bedside shelf and wardrobe with rail and shelves.
First floor
Steep wooden stairs (similar to a ladder) with a rope to steady you, rise to the living room with a small safety gate at the top.
Living Room
Wonderfully laid out with a kitchen area at one end, breakfast bar with a couple of stools and comfortable sitting area, complete with wood burning stove and, in the day time, light streaming in through two shuttered windows plus the velux in the vaulted ceiling.
The kitchen is incredibly well equipped for a compact property, with a Smart oven combining microwave and oven, a two ring hob, sink, Smeg toaster and kettle and shelves stacked with plenty of crockery, glassware, cookware and cutlery.
A couple of attractive bucket chairs have occasional tables between them and a TV for your entertainment.
Outside
The Fish Store is behind Reed Books at 115 High Street in Aldeburgh. An alley takes you to the courtyard gate where you’ll find the entrances to The Fish Store and its sister property, Meant To Be. There’s restricted roadside parking on the high street, car parks within an easy distance, or unrestricted parking on The Terrace which is up the town steps on the road above the high street.
