What our guests say

"The Fish Store has been the perfect base for our three night mini-break.  We've had all the weather, gorgeous sunny evenings sat on the edge of the beach eating fish and chips, to getting soaked to the bone walking back from Thorpeness.  We've had the best breakfast of our lives at 2 Magpies and thoroughly enjoyed the Adnams brewery tour.  All with the cosy Fish Store to come back to for scrabble in the evenings.  Thanks for the memories." - August 2021

"Tastefully presented home, very thoughtfully layout.  Had a lovely weekend celebrating our 30th Anniversary.  We were very lucky with the weather, although Aldeburgh doesn't need to have sunshine to enjoy.  We will be back."

"Such a relief after a tiring day to arrive and find everything just perfect! Thanks so much for creating a lovely and comfortable environment for our week in Aldeburgh. As others have said, the flat is beautiful, very well equipped and in the centre of everything, yet it's quiet and peaceful... marvellous! We've enjoyed wonderful concerts at Snape Maltings - and the cinema is marvellous too!"

The Fish Store at Aldeburgh

Once a simple fish store behind a prosperous fish shop on the high street (now a thriving book shop), this colourful and quirky holiday cottage is full of surprises, with an exceptional attention to detail, unique furnishings and quality accessories. A double bed sits in the cosy bedroom on the ground floor, under shuttered windows and next to a compact shower room. The extremely steep stairs (only recommended for agile guests!) take you to the snug living space; cleverly designed to relax in front of the wood burner or prepare and enjoy a light meal in the comfort of your holiday home.

Ground floor
The front door opens off a courtyard shared with the neighbouring holiday home, Meant To Be, which can be booked in conjunction with The Fish Store to accommodate four guests. Steep stairs rise ahead of you, there’s space to hang coats and leave footwear and the shower room is to the left, with door to the bedroom.

Shower Room
Unusually, the shower room is part of the entrance to this unique holiday cottage, shielded by a curtain for privacy and it is well equipped with a quality corner shower, washbasin, WC and heated towel rail.

A charming room with double bed under the window, a bedside shelf and wardrobe with rail and shelves.

First floor
Steep wooden stairs (similar to a ladder) with a rope to steady you, rise to the living room with a small safety gate at the top.

Living Room
Wonderfully laid out with a kitchen area at one end, breakfast bar with a couple of stools and comfortable sitting area, complete with wood burning stove and, in the day time, light streaming in through two shuttered windows plus the velux in the vaulted ceiling.

The kitchen is incredibly well equipped for a compact property, with a Smart oven combining microwave and oven, a two ring hob, sink, Smeg toaster and kettle and shelves stacked with plenty of crockery, glassware, cookware and cutlery.

A couple of attractive bucket chairs have occasional tables between them and a TV for your entertainment.

The Fish Store is behind Reed Books at 115 High Street in Aldeburgh. An alley takes you to the courtyard gate where you’ll find the entrances to The Fish Store and its sister property, Meant To Be. There’s restricted roadside parking on the high street, car parks within an easy distance, or unrestricted parking on The Terrace which is up the town steps on the road above the high street.

Whats Included?

All prices include 100% cotton bed linen, towels, heating and electricity, plus a welcome bottle of wine and biscuits to help you get your break off to a relaxing start.

This compact self-catering holiday cottage is equipped with central heating, a wood burning stove and appliances include a TV with FreeSat and Wifi. The kitchen is equipped with a Samsung Smart microwave/oven, a two ring hob, under counter fridge, Smeg toaster and kettle.
