The town also has an excellent variety of shops and restaurants including The Great House and The Angel – both award-winning restaurants and The Swan Hotel and Spa, a must for afternoon tea.
The market town of Hadleigh is approximately five miles away, one of the county’s little-known secrets with a unique mix of architecture and history from different periods. It’s a great place to shop and explore with an excellent range independently run shop, local pubs, restaurants and takeaways. On Friday mornings there is a market offering a wide range of stalls, including fish, fruit and vegetables and a 'coffee pod' with table and chairs.
Kersey, a sleepy picture-postcard village on a steep hill with ford which you can generally drive through, a family run 14th century pub and beautiful Kersey Mill is another great place to visit, just four miles from Lindsey Tye.
If you'd like to travel by train from London's Liverpool Street Station, Manningtree is a twenty-minute drive and you can book a taxi in advance.
There are plenty of country walks for guests to enjoy with places of interest along the way. Believed to be one of England’s oldest pubs The Red Rose Inn is a short walk from the cottage, serving local beers and good food; a timeless rural church, St Peter’s is in the village and also St James' Chapel which is a Grade 1 listed building built in about 1250. A well-behaved dog is welcome and there are plenty of great walks on the doorstep and the gravel drive is enclosed. If you wish to bring a dog it must be mentioned at the time of booking and is subject to our conditions of booking.
As Mara is single storey it’s suitable for guests with a mobility difficulty, however there is a gravel drive, there is a lip on the shower cubicle and the patio is raised.
