1 Westgate at Thorpeness

The large living room on the first floor, with view of the House in the Clouds, is a wonderful place for families or friends to congregate. The kitchen, dining room and study are located on the ground floor with a cloakroom and separate WC. There are four bedrooms; a double with shower and basin on the first floor, with a twin and an additional double and twin on the top floor with the family bathroom and separate WC.

There is a large partially enclosed northeast facing garden stocked with plants and shrubs.

Ground Floor
The entrance to this spacious holiday home is on Westgate, where there is off road parking, with a small path along two sides of the house and gate leading to the rear garden with back door.

Entrance Hall/Study
The front door opens into the entrance hall, a great place to hang coats and discard footwear. There's a low door and steep step up to the cloakroom with second door to the hallway.

Hallway
Stairs lead to the first floor and doors open to the dining room, kitchen, WC and the garden at the back.

Dining Room
A great place to entertain friends and family, this elegant room retains period features with the leaded windows, dado rails, exposed wood floor and working fireplace. There is a large table with eight chairs and a handsome mahogany dresser stacked with crockery.

Kitchen
This traditional family kitchen with windows looking north/east over the garden is fully equipped. There is an electric oven, four gas rings with extractor above, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and microwave.
There is a circular table and four chairs for casual dining and a spacious larder.

Cloakroom
With WC and washbasin.

First Floor
Carpeted stairs lead to the first-floor landing with another flight to the second floor. Doors open to the master bedroom and living room.

Living Room
This lovely light room catches the sun as it moves around with windows facing southwest over Westgate and west with view of the House in the Clouds over the trees. A fire in the original brick fireplace will warm you when the sun sets. The room is designed into two stylish sitting areas, one with a sofa and chairs close to the well-stocked library so you can sit back with a good book; the other with comfy sofas positioned to enjoy the TV and wood burner.

1st Double bedroom
This spacious room has original features with leaded windows and picture rails. There is a double bed with bedside drawers and lamps, a free standing mirror plus a wardrobe with drawers below. There is a new shower and washbasin in the corner of the room.

1st Twin bedroom
Accessed from the living room, this twin bedroom with window overlooking the garden. Furnishings include a rug on the wooden floor, bedside table with lamp and a chest of drawers and in addition to the charming beds with painted wooden frames, there is also a wardrobe for your belongings.
Second Floor
Stairs rise to the top floor where you'll find the family bathroom and two more bedrooms.

2nd Double Bedroom
Guests can see the famous ‘House in the Clouds’ from this lovely big bedroom with double bed, located at the top of the house. The room has a sloping roof, original floorboards with rugs, built in wardrobe, bedside cabinets with lamps, rocking chair, folding chair and a chest of drawers with mirror. There is also a new shower which has been installed.

2nd Twin Bedroom
Another good-sized sunny bedroom overlooking Westgate to the southwest with twin beds, wardrobe with shelf and drawer and a bedside cabinet with lamp and clock radio. There is also a rug on the wooden floorboards.

Family Shower Room
Located at the top of the stairs the room has a new large walk-in shower, heated towel rail, washbasin and window overlooking the garden and village beyond.

Cloakroom
A separate WC is located opposite the bathroom.

Outside
1 Westgate has a large garden facing northeast at the rear which is surrounded by a fence and has a wrought iron gate. The garden is mainly gravelled with a couple of beds stocked with shrubs and plants. A table and chairs is conveniently placed near the back door with the kitchen close by, so guests can easily enjoy a meal in the fresh sea air.

The holiday home is semi-detached and located in a quiet spot down an unmade road with parking for two to three cars. Steps from the road lead to a path round two sides of the house with a staircase leading to the first-floor living room and a front door on the ground floor opening into the study.

This comfortable semi-detached self-catering holiday home is equipped with gas central heating and appliances include a TV with FreeSat HD+, DVD/CD player, FM radio and iPod docking station. The kitchen is well equipped with an electric induction hob, oven, microwave and grill, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washing machine.



A travel cot and high chair are available from the property owners on request at the time of booking.
Thorpeness, a charming holiday village largely designed by the Scottish playwright and barrister Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie a century ago, is just a mile and a half along the beach from Aldeburgh. He decided to create an idyllic model seaside village, inspired by the writings of JM Barrie, author of Peter Pan and 1 Westgate is one of the original estate houses.

1 Westgate is in the heart of the village, famous for it’s Meare (local for lake) with several miles of shallow water and islands which can be explored in the summer time by rowing boat or kayak; Thorpeness Country Club with tennis courts and games rooms often available during half term holidays as well as the summer months and award winning 18-hole golf course.

A number of shops and eateries, including the village shop, the excellent Dolphin Inn, The Kitchen and popular Meare café are within walking distance and the area is ideal for cycling and walking, both along the coast and inland.
A well-behaved dog is welcome downstairs. If you wish to bring a dog it must be mentioned at the time of booking on the booking form and is subject to our conditions of booking.

Children are welcome in this family home.
