May’s photo of the month competition was all about food and drink in Suffolk, something the Best of Suffolk team are particularly expert in!

With award-winning artisan bakers, grocers and delicatessens combined with superior quality restaurants serving locally sourced seasonal produce, Suffolk is fast becoming foodie heaven.

Fish and Chips in Aldeburgh.

Leading the way at the beginning of the month was a tempting photo of fish and chips, straight from the bag in Aldeburgh.  Synonymous with the seaside, fish and chips always taste better when eaten on the beach.  Lashings of vinegar and straight from the bag and it’s a little taste of the seaside that’s hard to beat.

The Full English Breakfast, Suffolk Style!

The Full English Breakfast is a must when taking a holiday, and forms the ultimate treat on a lazy weekend away.  Best of Suffolk’s luxury holiday cottages are fully-equipped with everything you might need to produce your own fried breakfast, but should you fancy a more indulgent start to the day there are so many cafes and restaurants serving a tempting breakfast.  This tasty picture of breakfast was taken at The Boardwalk Café in Rendlesham, it looks good enough to eat!

Afternoon Tea by the Sea.

A tantalisingly tasty afternoon tea in Felixstowe was the subject of the next photo in our photo of the month competition.  Taken at The Oaks Tearoom and depicting a selection of fresh scones, cream, strawberries and a large pot of tea, there’s not a lot more you could want!

Meal with a View.

And if the food didn’t look good enough, check out the backdrop of Aldeburgh beach taken on a table at The Brudenell Hotel! This picture was taken as part of a well-earned refreshment stop following a walk on the Sailors Path from Snape Maltings to Aldeburgh.

Suffolk Tapas.

Who knew that Suffolk was home to a taste of the Mediterranean?! The Greyhound in Lavenham is now under new ownership and specliaising in small plate tapas.  One for lighter appetites, or those that are happy to while away an evening in good company and with good food in the heart of Suffolk.

Today’s catch.

With miles of stunning heritage coastline and a thriving fishing industry, no trip to Suffolk could be complete without treating yourself to some fresh seafood.  From the fishermen’s shacks in Southwold Harbour to fresh fish shops and stalls in marketplaces, you’re truly spoilt for choice.

These delicious lobsters were sourced from local fishermen from Felixstowe Ferry, you couldn’t get much fresher!

Sweet Treats in Suffolk.

With all of the savoury delights, it’s about time for pudding! Taken at The Freston Boot and described as “possibly one of the best Eton Mess desserts I have ever eaten!”, we can see why! Taking a classic desert and giving it a modern twist with outstanding results, showcasing that Suffolk cuisine is far from old-fashioned!

Dogs can take part too!

We all scream for ice cream (even our four legged friends!). Taken in Southwold at Harris & James, we see two delightful furry friends polishing off some peanut butter and banana doggy ice cream.  At Best of Suffolk we understand that your dog is part of the family, it’s why we don’t charge extra to bring your dog on holiday.  With more than 260 holiday cottages that are dog friendly, now you have every reason to treat your dog for some ice cream at the seaside!
