Spring saw the Best of Suffolk team, their families and our wonderful holiday cottage owners out and about enjoying England in all its glory taking part in a number of active pursuits from the London Marathon, to Keswick Mountain Festival and the Woodbridge 10K!
Being active, healthy and enjoying life to its fullest is part of the Best of Suffolk ethos. We are a small and happy team, that’s ambitious and fun. Wherever possible we like to get involved with challenges for charity, or just for the joy of taking part.
Starting with the London Marathon where Best of Suffolk have previously been represented, with Alex our Director taking part in 2017.
Our Head of Operations Tim’s wife Laura took part this year along with two other family members. Tim, his son Ollie and daughter Lily, had a family day out to London to cheer on Mum at mile 13 and 21.
Sir Mo Farah and the men’s elite including winner, Eliud Kipchoge, ran past Tim’s family, with Eluid then going on to win in course record and second ever fastest time. Laura crossed the finish line in an amazing 3 hours 48, and Tim is determined to run it next year!
London was completely buzzing with support and energy for all those taking part, including those in weird and wonderful costumes! Max and Sarah, the owners of Shingle Skies in Aldeburgh, also took part in the Marathon…dressed as a sausage dog! Crossing the line in 3hrs 28, they didn’t quite clinch the Guinness World Record, but they were certainly the fastest sausage dog to cross the line this year!
Keswick Mountain Festival
May saw the Keswick Mountain Festival where Best of Suffolk Directors Alex and Naomi completed the Mountain Trail Route.
Alex and Naomi were there with a group of friends from the 2017 Children in Need Marathon group. With everyone from the group, including partners, taking part in at least one event over the weekend so they ran and hiked by day and partied by night!
The 38th annual Woodbridge 10k took place on 19 May with over 700 runners taking part this year. This is a phenomenal family event and includes a junior race, with fantastic support from the crowd. Taking part this year was Tim, his wife Laura, sister-in-law Nicky and nephew Oscar who all ran as part of the Airbourne Fit Team. This speedy troop went on to win ‘overall winners’, congratulations guys!
With the King’s Head perfectly positioned on the finished for post-run well deserved drinks, and then an opportunity to explore Woodbridge in all its glory.
Visitors to Suffolk can enjoy taking part in a free ParkRun every Saturday at 9am for a 5k run in Leiston, Kesgrave, Ipswich and Lowestoft. ParkRun tourism is growing, with free membership for life and the opportunity to run some of the most beautiful parts of the country, what better way to get active whilst you’re away?
With the Aldeburgh 10K, Aldeburgh Triathlon and Southwold 10k ahead of us, it’s set to be a fighting fit year for Best of Suffolk and its guests! If you’re looking to stay in Southwold or Aldeburgh for these events, stay with Best of Suffolk; the BEST way to stay in Suffolk.
