Walberswick is one of Suffolk’s best-kept secrets. Today one of Suffolk’s top tourist attractions, the village was originally a major trading port from the 13th century until the First World War.
A beautiful beach… and more!
The stunning expansive beach backed by sand dunes is obviously one of the main attractions of Walberswick, and it is truly spectacular.
However, there’s much more to delight guests in this picture-postcard village. Enjoy an amble around the eclectic mix of original crafts and gift shops- perfect for souvenirs. Following that stop in one of the quaint tea rooms to recharge.
Here in Suffolk we pride ourselves on having truly great pubs, and Walberswick has not one but two! Head to The Anchor for its award-winning food and garden overlooking the dunes and beach huts. The Bell Inn is run by the iconic Suffolk brand Adnams, so it is the perfect place to go to sample their impressive range of local beers, wines, and spirits.
The village is famous for its annual crabbing competition. However, kids and amateurs are welcome to try their hand at this thoroughly entertaining activity anytime throughout the year.
Stock-up your self-catered kitchen with a trip to The Black Dog Deli. Here they sell everything from home-made sausage rolls and individually shaped filled pasta to delicious cakes. Fresh fish, purchased from the iconic black Walberswick fishermen’s huts is also a must!
Enjoy a pretty walk from Walberswick over the Bailey footbridge to the popular town of Southwold and take in the view of the fishing boats and yachts along the way. Conversely, during the summer months, choose to be rowed across the estuary in the foot-ferry.
There’s a reason that Southwold is one of Suffolk’s best-know towns, it’s spectacular! Complete with colourful beach-hut-lined promenade and lighthouse, Southwold is your quintessential British seaside town. Head here for hours of fun on the beach and in the wonderfully wacky Under The Pier Show.
