“I didn't want to leave this review but I'm so annoyed with the reaction to my reasonable comments/ complaint to Sykes Cottages that I feel compelled to make the effort to expand on here.”
The cottage is in central Southwold and nicely furnished. However, none of the cottage details on Sykes' website (or any other reviews) happen to mention that the bells at the adjacent church ring on the hour, every hour, 24 hours a day. The cottage is in central Southwold and nicely furnished. However, none of the cottage details on Sykes' website (or any other reviews) happen to mention that the bells at the adjacent church ring on the hour, every hour, 24 hours a day. That's twelve chimes at midnight, four chimes at 4am etc. It wouldn't be so bad if the property had double (or secondary) glazing and/or black out curtains - the flimsy see-through blinds in the main bedroom along with single glazing meant we may as well have been trying to sleep in a tent in the church grounds. During a 7 night stay I think the most sleep I managed to get was about 3 hours. Some "holiday". I reported this back to Sykes Cottages who took 9 days to respond, simply telling me "as this is an external disturbance and has nothing to do with the overall of property (sic) we wouldn't look to compensate you nor would the owner of the property" (I wonder how they know the owner's thoughts?). They go on to say "Also please be aware that the rental contract for the property is with the owner of the property and not Sykes Cottages as we are solely the booking agent". Fantastic customer service there and of course I will never be booking through Sykes again. If the property owner reads this feel free to contact me with your thoughts.
