{"id":6267,"date":"2023-05-22T11:56:14","date_gmt":"2023-05-22T10:56:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bestofsuffolk.co.uk\/blog\/?p=6267"},"modified":"2023-10-16T10:27:59","modified_gmt":"2023-10-16T09:27:59","slug":"the-mighty-hike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bestofsuffolk.co.uk\/blog\/the-mighty-hike\/","title":{"rendered":"The Mighty Hike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Team Best of Suffolk take on The Mighty Hike!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Team members from Best of Suffolk and Best Escapes took on a half marathon hike along the north Norfolk coast over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Starting in Cromer, the all-female team took on the 14.2 mile hike along stunning-scenery ending in Blakeney.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Find out their ups and downs, why Norfolk, and why Macmillan Cancer Support by reading on&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>The North Norfolk Coast Mighty Hike<\/h2>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6269\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bestofsuffolk.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/05\/Mighty-Hike-Image-1-RS.jpg\" alt=\"Mighty Hike Best of Suffolk\" width=\"640\" height=\"441\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The sun was shining on Sunday 21 May in North Norfolk as our team of fundraisers set off on a 14.2 mile hike for charity.<\/p>\n<h3>What is a &#8216;Mighty Hike&#8217;?<\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/mightyhikes.macmillan.org.uk\/\">&#8216;Mighty Hikes&#8217;<\/a> are a series of fundraising charity walks organised by Macmillan Cancer Support.\u00a0 There are 12 walks in total, and they take place all over the country.\u00a0 Hikers opt for either a full or half marathon. Designed to be challenging, some hikes include steep hills, dramatic scenery or stretches on sand or shingle. Hike locations range from the Thames, to the Giant&#8217;s Causeway, and from North Norfolk to the south coast from Brighton.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6278\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bestofsuffolk.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/05\/Mighty-Hike-Image-7-RS.jpg\" alt=\"Norfolk Mighty Hike\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>So, why Norfolk?<\/h3>\n<p>You may well be thinking &#8220;Why are Best of Suffolk in Norfolk?!&#8221;. Well that&#8217;s because we were walking on behalf of both Best of Suffolk, an our sister brand <a href=\"https:\/\/www.best-escapes.com\/\">Best Escapes<\/a>. Best Escapes specialise in stylish places to stay in Norfolk, and the hike was the perfect opportunity to get out there and see all that North Norfolk has to offer.<\/p>\n<h3>Who took part?<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6279\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bestofsuffolk.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/05\/Mighty-Hike-Image-8-RS.jpg\" alt=\"Team Bos BE\" width=\"640\" height=\"412\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Five team members of Best of Suffolk and Best Escapes took part in the Mighty Hike.\u00a0 They were;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tamar Martin &#8211; Quality Assurance<\/li>\n<li>Abi Charter &#8211; Marketing Manager<\/li>\n<li>Hannah Glennon &#8211; Business Development Manager<\/li>\n<li>Kyrah Martin &#8211; Customer &amp; Owner Relations Expert<\/li>\n<li>Taylor Norman &#8211; Senior Customer &amp; Owner Relations Expert<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We were also joined by Claire Pegg, who works for Sykes Holiday Cottages (Best of Suffolk&#8217;s parent company) and used to work for Best of Suffolk, and her friend Charlie!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6284\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bestofsuffolk.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/05\/Mighty-Hike-Image-13-RS.jpg\" alt=\"Mighty Hike team\" width=\"640\" height=\"479\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>What was the route?<\/h3>\n<p>The team started in the 8:40am wave of walkers from Cromer.\u00a0 Sticking closely to the North Norfolk Coastal path, the route clung to the coastline.\u00a0 Soon we were in Beeston and tackled the &#8216;Beeston bump&#8217;.\u00a0 This particularly steep section of the coastal path involved several steep steps to the summit. Worth it for the views at the top though!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6271\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bestofsuffolk.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/05\/Mighty-Hike-Image-2-RS.jpg\" alt=\"Mighty Hike Beeston Bump\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After Beeston came Sheringham, and the opportunity to walk alongside the pretty painted beach huts.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6273\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bestofsuffolk.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/05\/Mighty-Hike-Image-3-RS.jpg\" alt=\"Mighty Hike Sheringham\" width=\"640\" height=\"514\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We carried on along the coastal path to Weybourne and after 7 miles we were at the half-way pitstop. Time for a quick snack, drink, application of plasters and we were soon off again.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6274\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bestofsuffolk.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/05\/Mighty-Hike-Image-4-RS.jpg\" alt=\"Mighty Hike pit stop \" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The stretch ahead was our most-grueling! 3 miles along the shingle-beach at Salthouse. It was not for the faint hearted, but we stuck together as a team and powered through.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6275\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bestofsuffolk.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/05\/Mighty-Hike-Image-5-RS.jpg\" alt=\"Mighty Hike shingle Salthouse\" width=\"640\" height=\"709\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After what felt like an eternity, we left the beach and headed inland to Cley-next-the-sea.\u00a0 The solid footpath most welcome underneath aching feet!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6277\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bestofsuffolk.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/05\/Mighty-Hike-Image-6-RS.jpg\" alt=\"Mighty Hike Cley Norfolk\" width=\"640\" height=\"576\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After passing Cley windmill we carried on along the footpath and headed in the beautiful town of Blakeney. Along the quay and round into a large playing field where we crossed the line as a team!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6282\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bestofsuffolk.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/05\/Mighty-Hike-Image-10-RS.jpg\" alt=\"Finish line Mighty Hike\" width=\"640\" height=\"502\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>A Huge Achievement<\/h3>\n<p>After crossing the finish line, we met up with Claire and Charlie, and get our medals and a glass of fizz.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6283\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bestofsuffolk.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/05\/Mighty-Hike-Image-12.jpg\" alt=\"Medals Mighty Hike\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Fundraising<\/h3>\n<p>Each team member signed up to raise \u00a3250 for Macmillan Cancer Support. By the time they had crossed the finish line, they had already raised \u00a31345 as a team.\u00a0 Donations are still coming into the team&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justgiving.com\/team\/bestescapesbestofsuffolkmightyhike2023\">Just Giving<\/a> page.<\/p>\n<p>Cancer will affect 1 in 2 of us over our lifetime, and Macmillan provide essential support to those affected. The \u00a3250 fundraising target for each team member will pay for a Macmillan nurse for a day, and the team were motivated to help fundraise to provide support for those in need.<\/p>\n<h2>Best of Suffolk and Best Escapes Team<\/h2>\n<p>So how did the team feel afterwards?\u00a0 Abi Charter, Marketing Manager at Best of Suffolk and Best Escapes comments <em>&#8220;Working hard to successfully deliver wonderful holidays for guests and happy owners means we work so well as a team. In addition to working hard, we all like to play hard, push ourselves through challenges and raise funds for good causes. The Mighty Hike 2023 was an experience!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So&#8230;.the big question is, would the team do it again? Abi continues <em>&#8220;As a team, we bonded over steep hills, stunning scenery, seeing seals, blisters, a 3-mile stretch of shingle, nosebleeds, being taken out by paragliders, pushing ourselves to the limit, and we stayed together as a team, encouraging each other through it all. Over the weekend hikers combined forces to raise over \u00a31.2 million for the charity, there was a real community spirit, and we all felt proud of what we had achieved.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And as for the next challenge&#8230;watch this space!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Team Best of Suffolk take on The Mighty Hike!
