Welcome to the latest edition of the Best of Suffolk ‘Tried and Tested’ blog series, featuring Apostle Cottage<\/a> Southwold.<\/p>\n

We try out our properties with our families and friends to provide first-hand experience of our stays.\u00a0 From the property itself to the local area, things to do and places to eat – we ‘try and test’ it all.\u00a0 After all, there’s nothing better than a personal recommendation, especially when it comes to something as important as a holiday!<\/p>\n

In this edition, Tim (our Director or Operations), his wife Laura, son Olly and daughter Lily tried out Apostle Cottage in Southwold in August.<\/p>\n

Apostle Cottage, Southwold<\/h2>\n

Renovated and furnished to a high standard, Apostle Cottage is in a great location, a short walk from Southwold’s sandy beach, fun filled pier and the bustling high street.\u00a0 Comfortably sleeping five guests with a lovely kitchen\/dining room, cosy living room with open fire and courtyard garden for balmy evenings, Apostle Cottage is ideal for a seaside holiday or short break with friends and family.\u00a0\u00a0Find out Tim how and his family spent their long weekend in Southwold over the summer.<\/p>\n

VIEW & BOOK APOSTLE COTTAGE<\/a><\/p>\n

\"Apostle<\/p>\n

Location, Location, Location!<\/h2>\n

When it comes to picking a holiday home in Southwold, one of the key things to consider is location.\u00a0 Apostle Cottage could not be better placed for a long weekend or week-long break in this traditional Suffolk seaside town.\u00a0 The children loved being so close to the play area at Tibby’s Green.\u00a0 It’s so handy for shops and restaurants as well as days spent on the beach.\u00a0 I liked being able to get up, go for a run on through the town to the beach and prom all from the front door!<\/p>\n

\"Apostle<\/p>\n

Tucked away on Bartholomew Green, this gorgeous period property sits comfortably next to St Edmunds Church.\u00a0 I was worried the church bells might wake us up in the morning, but the quiet location and plenty of Suffolk fresh air soon meant we were sleeping soundly!<\/p>\n

The location inspires you to get out there and enjoy all that Southwold has to offer.\u00a0 We could nip out and get fresh croissants, bread and coffee from one of the bakeries every morning.<\/p>\n

\"Apostle<\/p>\n

First Impressions<\/h2>\n

We were eager and excited to get to Apostle Cottage for our long weekend.\u00a0 After a challenging year, this was our first holiday in 2020 and we were so keen for a change of scenery.\u00a0 Who could wish for a more picturesque scenery than Southwold?!\u00a0 We checked in at 5pm, an hour later than normal to allow for the additional cleaning measures.\u00a0 After we got our keys from the key safe we had a very excited look around.\u00a0 The property was absolutely spotless!\u00a0 As standard with Best of Suffolk, we had a welcome bottle of wine on our arrival as well as some yummy biscuits.\u00a0 Apostle Cottage gets the thumbs up from Lily!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Lord Nelson<\/h2>\n

After we had unpacked, and nipped to the local shops to stock up on a few essentials, it was time for a well-earned drink.\u00a0 We had a number of pubs to chose from, all serving drinks to take away and enjoy whilst employing social distancing.\u00a0 We had our pick of the beach, one of the many greens in Southwold or a bench or the prom from which to enjoy our refreshments.\u00a0 We picked The Lord Nelson for our welcome tipple, who were dispensing drinks from their serving hatch.<\/p>\n

\"Apostle<\/p>\n

After collecting our drinks, we found a sunny spot on South Green. The open space, fresh air and sea views were so very welcome!\u00a0 The atmosphere was warm, welcoming and safe.\u00a0 There were plenty of families all trying to do exactly as we were, and enjoy a traditional family holiday by the sea.<\/p>\n

\"Apostle<\/p>\n

Exploring Southwold<\/h2>\n

After our drink, we took full advantage of being so centrally located at Apostle cottage and took a walk around the quintessential seaside town.\u00a0 The children were absolutely buzzing at the sight of the sea, the lighthouse, pier and of course the cannons!<\/p>\n

\"Apostle<\/p>\n

Before we knew it, the sun had set on our first day.\u00a0 And what a beautiful sunset it was!<\/p>\n

\"Apostle<\/p>\n

A Family Breakfast<\/h2>\n

The well-equipped kitchen and dining room at Apostle Cottage were perfect for family breakfasts.\u00a0 We sat and discussed the day ahead with plenty of space for the whole family.<\/p>\n

\"Apostle<\/p>\n

Sea Swimming!<\/h2>\n

We were completely lucky to have the most glorious sunny weather during our stay in Southwold at Apostle Cottage over the summer.\u00a0 Being so ideally located, we decided to brave the North Sea, and head out for a sea swim!<\/p>\n

\"Apostle<\/p>\n

What an incredible experience!\u00a0 The ideal location of Apostle Cottage meant we could get back to our gorgeous holiday home within a few minutes walk.\u00a0 The\u00a0 downstairs shower room by the back door proved very useful with two sandy children!<\/p>\n

Southwold Pier<\/h2>\n

In the afternoon we made arrangements to meet with friends and enjoy Southwold Pier.\u00a0 The whacky amusements and crazy mirrors proved to be a huge hit with the children!<\/p>\n

\"Apostle<\/p>\n

Southwold truly is a family friendly destination, and Apostle Cottage more than catered for our needs during our family holiday.<\/p>\n

Crabbing in Walberswick<\/h2>\n

We decided on our last full day at Apostle Cottage to venture over to Walberswick to take part in a bit of crabbing!\u00a0 Walberswick can be reached easily by foot from Southwold, crossing over Bailey’s foot bridge than passes between Southwold and Walberswick harbours.\u00a0 You can of course also catch the Walberswick Foot Ferry, for a small fee.<\/p>\n

\"Apostle<\/p>\n

Board Game Fun!<\/h2>\n

It would not be a classic family holiday without some board games.\u00a0 After we got back for our adventures in Walberswick, the children made full use of the cosy sitting room in Apostle Cottage to play.\u00a0 Our family holiday was lucky enough to be in the summer and we had glorious weather.\u00a0 The welcoming sitting room would be wonderful on cooler, wetter days with the open fire and very comfortable sofas.<\/p>\n

If I Had More Time, I Would…<\/h2>\n

Take a tour of the Adnams Brewery<\/h3>\n

Being within staggering distance makes a tour of the brewery, and tasting of delicious samples afterwards, a very tempting option!\u00a0 You can chose from a tour of the brewery or gin and whiskey distillery.<\/p>\n

Get to the top of Southwold Lighthouse<\/h3>\n

Only open on very selected days, Southwold lighthouse is a must-see attraction in Southwold.\u00a0 The view from the top truly is spectacular!<\/p>\n
