More Than a Holiday Lettings Agency
We are known by our guests as a holiday letting agency. We’re known as Suffolk experts and ambassadors. We’re also known as leading the way for customer care. What you might not know about us, is our commitment to working with local charities and community groups.
Best of Suffolk and Local Charities
We pride ourselves on the work we do with local charities and community groups, not to mention our support of local events. From entering a team in a local 10K or triathlon, to a charity fundraiser, Best of Suffolk like to get involved.
Best of Suffolk Charity Pound
When our guests book with us, they have the opportunity to donate a nominal amount to local charities. Then we match every pound we are donated and use the funds to support local charities and community initiatives. This summer, two charities in particular were the focus of our attention; Suffolk Community Foundation and The Alde and Ore Estuary Trust. Both charities were holding fundraising events and Best of Suffolk saw an opportunity to not only help with the costs but to also lend a helping hand.
Suffolk Community Foundation
The Suffolk Community Foundation works to ensure that acute areas of need in Suffolk are addressed compassionately, respectfully and sustainably. They work alongside local charities, and act as a hub to channel funds directly to them.
Suffolk Dog Day
Suffolk Dog Day was back at Helmingham Hall on the 28 July for it’s 11th year! Organised by Suffolk Community Foundation, their Head of Public Affairs,
“The idea was that a few volunteers would put on a small dog show for the locals in Helmingham. Here we are, only little over a decade later and ‘PawPower’ has helped support so much great work in Suffolk. It has fed families via foodbanks, relieved the loneliness of older people, supported those fighting addiction, experiencing domestic violence or sexual abuse, the list goes on. It’s important work and its vital support.”
So what was the day all about? Well, its for dog lovers that’s for sure! Dogs of all shapes and sizes were welcomed to take part in 20 classes including best pedigree, In the spirit of inclusion and family fun, there were also some more lighthearted classes including waggiest tail, bad hair day and fancy dress!
Hosted by none other than Peter Purves, famed for presenting both Blue Peter and Crufts.
Best in Show
After the classes had all finished, the winning pooches from each class gathered in the Helmingham ring to be judged for Best in Show. Judged by Tim, our Head of Operations, who was delighted to award the lucky winners! Monty the Irish Setter was awarded ‘Next Top Model’. Archie the Dalmatian won the award for the ‘Best Short Coat’ and Angel the Border Collie cross was declared winner of Best Rescue dog. Well done to our winners and all those that took part.
The Alde and Ore Estuary Trust
The Alde and Ore Estuary Trust exists to raise and steward the charitable funds required to upgrade the river walls of the Alde and Ore Estuary.
Aldeburgh to Orford Flotilla
The inaugural flotilla took place on Sunday 28 July, despite the unseasonable British weather! With more than 100 participants all taking part in a 5 mile swim from Aldeburgh to Orford to raise funds for the Trusts “Save Our Suffolk Estuary” campaign.
One of those 100 entrants was Best of Suffolk’s very own Annette Mason-Gordon, our Business Development Manager!
Best of Suffolk were delighted to have our beloved Morris proudly on the swimming caps used by the participants and provided by Best of Suffolk.
The Alde and Ore Estuary Trust are particularly proud of the huge accomplishment of all involved and have put the following message on their website;
“Ahoy there! Thank you to everyone who took part in the fundraising flotilla along our treasured estuary on 28th July. With match funding we raised over £24,000 and thanks to local business sponsorship, 100% of the donations will be used to maintain and upgrade the estuary river walls.”
Best of Suffolk Charity Work Continues
Delighted by the contribution we are able to make to the local community, we will continue to raise funds for local charities and support where we can. Watch this space for future blogs on our charity work. The next upcoming event is the Alde and Ore Estuary Trust Pub Quiz on Friday 22nd November. Full details on our events page.
