We’ve put together this blog on top tips on things to do in Suffolk for each season. You could visit Suffolk in each season and have a different experience each time! From the end of December through until the end of March there are some events not to be missed. For example, how about Christmas markets and light switch-on events? Our market towns come alive during the winter months. The Bury St Edmunds Christmas market is a fayre to rival the big European Christmas markets. Mulled wine, local food delicacies, live music and dancing – it really is a must!
These early months in the year are just has special as the popular summer months, some would say more special! Suffolk’s crisps mornings allow for some stunning morning walks, along the coast and across some gorgeous countryside. Wake up to most stunning sunrises on a beach that’s all yours!
Noah’s Ark – 15th November for 3 months
A half-sized replica of Noah’s Ark has arrived at Orwell Quay on Ipswich Waterfront. It will open to everyone on Friday 15th November and stay for up to 3 months, as part of an ongoing tour. This is a fantastic family event to be enjoyed by all. Noah’s Ark is the world’s only floating museum and exhibition of Bible stories. A cultural and educational celebration of many of the legendary stories from the Bible’s Old and New Testaments.
Jungle Terrarium Workshop – 25th January 2020
After a sell-out success for the same event in 2019, in the beginning of 2020 there will be the opportunity to create something wonderful again! This event is held in Beccles at Urban Jungle and you will learn how to create your very own tropical garden under a glass jar. A Suffolk for all seasons even to be making gardens in glasses!
The Chicago Blues Brothers’ A Night At The Movies – 14th March 2020
You’ll dance, you’ll sing and you’ll have the evening of your life! Featuring songs from Footloose, A Star is Born and Dirty Dancing, there will be plenty to sing along too! The Chicago Blues Brothers’ A Night At The Movies is one on the most successful theatre shows touring the globe. You must, whilst in Suffolk, dig out your shades and dancing shoes and come to the Spa Pailion Theatre in Felixstowe!
In the run up to the summer months, Suffolk is glowing. From the end of March to the end of June, Suffolk comes back into full colour, flowers are in full bloom and the sun is shining! Enjoy a glorious walk along the coast, or if you are feeling brave, a swim in the sea.
Spring Farmers Market at Trinity Park – 21st March 2020
On the 21st March the Spring Farmers Market will take place at Trinity Park, Ipswich. With over 50 stalls, all selling wonderful, local and original produce, it will be a great day out. There will be a range of hot foods to enjoy on the day, along with handmade crafts and gifts.
Suffolk Show – 27 – 28th May 2020
Suffolk Show is an annual event that has an amazing range of stalls, food halls, and a unique celebration of everything that makes the country great! From luxury clothing brands to farmers showcasing their live-stock, the Suffolk Show has something for everyone. The Suffolk Show is organised by the Suffolk Agricultural Association, they are a charity who aim to promote food, farming and countryside and its importance to Suffolk.
Suffolk in the summer is just amazing! With the smell of fish and chips and the ice cream shops thriving, Suffolk is such a wonderful destination for a family get together! Do you and your loved ones enjoy a beach walk, a pub lunch, a day out crabbing or a staycation? Suffolk is the answer!
Latitude Festival – 16th – 19th July 2020
If you are a music lover, you will have heard of Latitude. The festival lends itself very well to family’s with music to theatre to food and award wining family fun, there is something for everyone! Latitude is one of Suffolk’s biggest music events and has a wonderful line up,which gets better each year. Did you know the line up of acts for 2020 has been announced? Liam Gallagher, Haim, The Chemical Brothers, Keane and the Lumineers will all be in Suffolk this year!
Aldeburgh Carnival – 16th & 17th August 2020
The event of the year for Aldeburgh! Aldeburgh Carnival is thought to be over 170 years old, and attracts hundreds of people from all over the country. The crowd consists of holiday makers, and born and bred Suffolk folk, all equally there for the cheer of the carnival. The carnival takes place over a weekend with a different focus each day. It really isn’t one to miss!
As the autumnal months arrive, Suffolk gradually turns into beautiful shades of orange and golden yellows. These months in Suffolk are glorious as the towns are peaceful and quiet, and the countryside is still full of colour. As well as stunning back drops, there are some amazing events that take place in the autumn too.
Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival – 26th & 27th September 2020
Next year, the Festival promises to deliver a jam-packed weekend of fabulous food adventures, from tastings and demonstrations to ‘roll up your sleeves and get stuck in’ masterclasses. There will be lots of local producers attending the festival in 2020, there will be some fantastic products that are your favourites and some that you haven’t seen before! The producers include; Adnams, Aspall, Fairfields Farm Crisps and Casa de l’Oli.
Heveningham Hall Fireworks
The fireworks held at Heveningham Hall, are some of the best! The display of fireworks lights up Heveningham Hall and allows for a wonderful back drop for the event. Above all, just to top off the fireworks there is another huge highlight of the evening, which is the band / artists that performs at the event.
