Large Suffolk holiday cottage on one floor
The Wooden House, Aldeburgh
About the property
Love it or hate it, (we love it!) the 1960s is alive and well in The Wooden House!
You'll be stepping back in time when you arrive at this spacious original wooden Colt bungalow. It has a large garden and off road parking and is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Aldeburgh High Street on a private lane just off Wentworth Road close by.
This much-loved large house is on one floor and is packed with quirky character having changed little since it was built to a high specification in 1961. We think you'll really appreciate the luxury of light and space in this very comfortable open-plan family house. It is well-designed and still has many of the original 1960s bathroom and kitchen fittings. There’s a large and beautiful secluded garden and off-road parking for several cars, very unusual for a property so close to Aldeburgh high street.
Inside, the front door leads into a big open plan living space where you'll find the dining and living room accommodation. The very large living room has two sofas, an arm chair, and a wood-burning stove to keep you warm on winter evenings.
The only 'nod' to the modern day in this room is the large wide-screen television with Sky TV freeview and a DVD player. From here you can walk through to the south-facing sun room, an ideal spot for a glass or two of wine whilst enjoying the view of the mature garden outside.
The wood panelled dining area comes complete with original 60s G-plan table and seating for six people. Just off the dining room is the 1960s kitchen, still immaculate and complete with melamine cupboards, stocked with modern plates and utensils and with an electric cooker.
The sleeping accommodation comprises two doubles and two single bedrooms and is split between two areas, to the North and South ends of the house. A hallway leads to the sleeping accommodation at the south end of the house, giving access to:
Bedroom 1 - a large double bedroom with a big window overlooking the garden.
Bedroom 2 - a good-sized single bedroom with a large window over looking the garden.
Bathroom 1 - bath with shower over it, a w.c., and hand basin.
At the other end of the open plan living space a door from the dining area leads to the northern end of the house giving access to:
Bedroom 3 - a good-sized single 'walk-through' bedroom with a large window and access to a hallway leading to the following rooms:
Bedroom 4 and en suite - a double bedroom with an en suite bathroom (bath with shower over and a hand basin).
An additional two children can be accommodated on full sized single folding beds. The beds can be squeezed into the two single rooms but this does reduce the space to a minimum and so are really only suitable for children or teenagers.
A separate wc with hand basin, and a separate utility room.
A back door in the northern hallway leading to the drive and garden.
Although the house doesn't have central heating it is very warm in the winter. It has efficient overnight storage heaters which come on automatically as well as a wood burning stove in the living room.
Outside, the large garden is split into several areas and includes a large and small pond (both fenced off), a large trampoline with safety net, and an orchard.
