Suffolk holiday accommodation near the beach

This lovely Victorian cottage is situated in the pretty village of Alderton and is ideal for couples and small families wanting to get away from it all, but still be within walking distance of a good village shop and a pub! Built in the 1800s, it was once the teacher’s house for the former village school. Alderton is in the Bawdsey peninsula so the sea, River Deben and pretty town of Woodbridge are all close by along with pretty beaches and country walks.

The house has a living room, a large kitchen-dining room, two bedrooms – one king and one double – and a bathroom. The house has WiFi access. Outside there is a pretty landscaped terraced garden with patios and delicious herbs. There is off-road parking for up to two cars.

Ground floor: The front door leads into a hallway with access to the kitchen/dining room, the living room and the stairs to the first floor.

Living room: The large living room has a big bay window with views over the front garden. There are two leather sofas, a coffee table, a fireplace (not in use), a a 32” LCD flat screen TV with Sky package, a DVD player, and an Ipod docker. A small selection of books, games and DVDs are available for you enjoy.

Kitchen/dining room: At one end of this large room is the kitchen area where appliances include a halogen hob and oven, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, coffee maker and a tall integrated fridge-freezer. At the other end of the room is the dining area with an oak table, colourful ‘Air’ chairs, and an oak dresser, with a large window overlooking the rear garden. The back door opens out to the back terraced garden and patio.

First floor: stairs from ground floor lead up to a first floor landing.

Bedroom 1: This room has a king size bed, bedside tables, two built in wardrobes and a blanket chest with drawers.

Bedroom 2: A double bed with an iron frame with bedside tables, and large built in wardrobes.

Bathroom: There’s a freestanding bath and a separate shower, w.c. and a hand basin.

Outside: There are pretty gardens to the front and rear of the house. At the back there is a terraced landscaped garden, including a patio just outside the back door with table and chairs, and steps up to two further decked areas, with a another table and chairs, that catch the sun at different times of the day. There is a charcoal kettle BBQ. The borders are packed with lavender and herbs including rosemary and sage. At the front of the property is space to park two cars off-road. There is lockable side gate giving access to the enclosed rear garden, where bikes can be stored.

This link-detached Suffolk self-catering cottage is situated in the pretty village of Alderton near Woodbridge and is close to Bawdsey and Shingle Street.  The village has a friendly village shop/post office and a pub called The Swan serving Indian meals and takeaways. The village is just a short drive away from Bawdsey Quay where there is a small sandy beach with views over the River Deben and a passenger ferry to Felixstowe Ferry.

Explore the area with our top five suggestions:-

1) Take an easy stroll down to the beach (1 mile) or a 3-mile circular route right from the cottage, taking in part of the Suffolk coastal path, mostly along public footpaths through fields and following reed beds that attract native birds.

2) Enjoy lunch sat outside the Ramsholt Arms on the bank of the River Deben, where boats moor up for lunch and children paddle on sunny days.

3) Take a short drive to Bawdsey Quay, at the mouth of the River Deben. Sit on the unspoilt small sandy beach and sunbathe or catch the foot and cycle ferry over the river to Felixstowe Ferry.

4) Spend a day visiting the historic riverside town of Woodbridge, with it’s many shops, cafes, restaurants, independent cinema and public swimming pool, then on to Sutton Hoo, the fascinating historic burial ground of the Anglo-Saxon kings of East Anglia, owned by the National Trust.

5) Bring bikes and cycle down the lanes into Rendlesham Forest.

All rental prices include bed linen and towels, oil and electricity plus a welcome bottle of wine and biscuits to help you get your break off to a relaxing start.

The property is equipped with oil fired central heating, TV, DVD player, Sky package, Ipod/MP3 docker, digital radio, electric hob and oven, a fridge and freezer, microwave, coffee maker, dishwasher, and washing machine. A travel cot and a high chair can be provided by the owners on request. The house has WiFi access although there is no telephone helpline support for it.
