Whether you’re looking for a great family holiday, a birdwatching trip or a trip down memory lane, the beaches of the Suffolk coast have something for everyone. If you’re planning to stay for more than a day, our Suffolk beach cottages will cater to you and your whole family.

All properties listed here are close to a beach or have fantastic sea views, so relax and enjoy your holiday by the sea!

Where to choose a Beach Cottage in Suffolk?

At Best of Suffolk we’re probably biased but we think that Suffolk has some of the best beaches in the UK. Some of our favourites include:

Southwold

Southwold is probably one of the favourite seaside towns in England and Wales, both with its own residents and the many visitors that come every year. The beach is lined with picture perfect beach huts and there are a selection of cafes and stalls offering tea and ice cream. Further into the town, visit the fantastic shops, restaurants and local pubs. Southwold Pier and Lighthouse are also well worth a visit.

Thorpness Beach

Thorpness has a lovely shingle beach, backed by pretty cottages and villas, and with views towards Aldeburgh and Dunwich. The village itself has a golf course, large boating lake known as The Meare and a multitude of mock Tudor buildings. There is also the House in the Clouds, built in 1923 and designed to cover a water tower.

Walberswick

Walberswick is well known for its crabbing, in fact the Annual Crabbing Championships were held here until 2010. It is also a great place to begin exploring the Suffolk Coast and Heaths area of outstanding beauty. Walberswick has an incredible quality of looking beautiful in any weather, so it’s worth visiting all year round.

Dunwich

Dunwich beach and its surrounding heath and woodland are home to many rare plants and wildlife. Once a city larger than London with more than 300 residents, most of the original Dunwich has been lost to sea. In fact, many people say that during storms you can hear the bells of the lost churches. The wide shingle beach is perfect for a paddle in the sea, walking the dog or even a spot of fishing.

Felixstowe

Felixstowe has a huge amount to offer, from windsurfing to golf, nature trails and a 16th century fort to explore to name just a few. The beach itself stretches for 4 miles with a promenade to enjoy strolls without sandy feet. The sea off Felixstowe is usually calm and safe to swim, kayak or paddleboard.

Aldeburgh

Aldeburgh beach offers a traditional English seaside experience, with a tranquil shingle beach backed by pretty pastel-coloured houses along the seafront. At the north end of the beach, look out for the Scallop, a 4-metre-high art installation dedicated to composer Benjamin Britten.

Lowestoft

Lowestoft hosts two award winning stretches of sandy beach, perfect for the whole family. The beach and sea are popular with many watersports including jet skiing, wind surfing, kite skiing, surfing and paddle boarding. Backed by a promenade and beach huts, there’s a café serving ice creams, hot and cold drinks and snacks – perfect to keep the whole family going! As the most easterly point in the UK, Lowestoft is perfect for a sunrise visit.

Shingle Street

A beach and not a street, Shingle Street is on the Deben Peninsula south of Woodbridge. It is a seemingly untouched area, with plenty of bird and wildlife to see. The waters here are calm and swimmable, although it can get a little chilly!

Covehithe

Covehithe beach is a stunning stretch of sand that’s part of the Benacre National Nature Reserve. It’s a perfect getaway, with calm seas that are perfect for giving you the chance to swim or paddle easily. There’s also an abundance of wildlife to see and enjoy.
