Kitchen/dining room: This large room has a bleached oak table and eight chairs, a two-seater sofa by a lovely open fire, a double Belfast sink, a range cooker and a stainless steel food preparation island.  There’s a pantry full of plates and glasses, a washing machine/tumble dryer, a dishwasher and a fridge-freezer.

En-suite to Bedroom 1: A step leads up to a large bathroom where you’ll find an cast-iron bath with mahogany bath surround, a large vintage hand basin, a w.c, more stylish Brunschwig & Fils wallpaper, and double cupboards with hanging storage for clothes.

Bedroom 2, ‘The Sewing Room’:  This spacious room has a king-size bed, bedside tables, a wardrobe, a wicker chair and a lovely window seat with views of the garden.  This delightful room has an antique cabinet full of beautifully arranged remnants of fabric, and a wonderful antique ‘Sylko’ display cabinet full of colourful reels of sewing thread.

About the area:

Providence House is situated in the pretty village of Thornage, close to the quintessential Georgian Norfolk town of Holt where you’ll find a variety of good shops and boutiques including Byfords Delicatessen and Café, Bakers and Larners Department Store (with it’s excellent Food Hall for an excellent selection of wines and organic foods).

Here are our top five tips for exploring the area:

- A visit to Holkham Beach.  Walk along the pure white sand to the amazing dunes at Gun Hill for a picnic, then back though the scented pines that hug the coast to the Victoria Hotel for drinks.

- Take the ferry to Blakeney Point (National Trust) to visit a 100 or more basking seals out on the fine sands of the Point (Norfolk’s answer to Cap Cod), also a nationally important home to colonies of seabirds, especially terns, and take a swim in the shallow warm waters.

- Houghton Hall.  Go to William Kent’s 18th-C baroque masterpiece, with its sumptuous interiors including the emerald velvet shell bed that fills a huge cube room. Outside tour the gardens revitalised by Highgrove designers, Julian and Isabel Bannerman.

- Fakenham Races.  An old-fashioned day out at the local races where studying people is as interesting as studying form.

- Shell Museum, Glandford. A jewel of a seashell collection, the finest in Britain in the oldest purpose-built museum in Norfolk.
