ROMANTIC HISTORIC HOLIDAY COTTAGE WITH ADDITIONAL SAUNA
This comfortable and quirky holiday cottage, dating back to the 1400’, has been lovingly restored retaining immense character with masses of beams and original features like the large Suffolk Landing with a unique built in Breton bed, to provide unobtrusive luxury for family and friends to feel ‘at home in’.
There’s an impressive dining room with lots of ancient oak beams, a cosy reading ‘snug’ area and double doors to the large and well equipped kitchen which leads round to the sunny garden room. The large sitting room on the ground floor has lovely ancient beams and a massive Inglenook fireplace with comfortable sofas to relax. The three bedrooms on the first floor can easily accommodate six guests with two doubles and two built in Breton beds (one on the landing) which are fun for two little guests or one larger!
A lovely little Victorian Wash House has been cleverly converted to contain a four person Sauna with a shower, toilet and wash basin. The back garden of Oakleys has a sun trap patio for breakfast, leading through to a pretty orchard with a BBQ area with seating under a rose covered Pergola. The drive at the front sets the semi-detached cottage back from the road with enough space for three cars to park.
Set in a quaint porch, the front door opens into a small entrance hall with a second door opening into the dining room. Both the kitchen and sitting room open off this and lead through to the back of the house where there’s a cloakroom and sun room with door to the garden. The flooring throughout the ground floor is Tudor brick with under floor heating other than in the sitting room and generous rugs to keep the chill off.
An impressive room for entertaining with lots of ancient oak beams and rich Orangery Farrow and Ball painted wattle and daub walls, A cosy reading ‘snug’ is built in around the front window and a music system with a pile of CDs inviting you to sit back and relax whilst listening to Bach or Mozart (or something more upbeat if you choose!). This wonderful room is beautifully furnished with a refectory style table and eight chairs, a side board stacked with crockery and cutlery. Double doors open to the kitchen and the music is wired through so you can enjoy it whilst cooking!

The sitting room has a lovely ancient moulded beamed ceiling and a massive Inglenook fireplace with large log burner. There are three comfortable sofas, occasional tables and an excellent hifi system with iPod connectivitiy in this room, the dining room and kitchen. A book case is heaving with books, games and magazines and a cabinet cleverly conceals the flat screen TV and there’s another CD player for your entertainment.

There’s a door next to the kitchen opening directly onto the wooden stairs which are relatively narrow and steep, typical of a cottage, with a rope hand rail to the large Suffolk Landing. All three bedrooms and the family bathroom open off and rugs are scattered around the first floor which has exposed floorboards throughout.
Tucked to one side is the first fabulously unique ‘built in’ Breton bed with mattress 3ft 6inches wide by 6ft 5 inches long, easily fitting two little guests or appealing to one adult ‘kid at heart’!. Rich brocade curtains can be closed to create a self-contained ‘den’ with small flat screen DVD/TV, a window and shelf with there’s a wooden mounting block waiting for you to climb in!
With a vauted pine ceiling with a big bed and views over the back garden out to the countryside. A rustic hand made king size bed has matching bedside drawers, couple of chairs, a chest of drawers and ample storage in built in wardrobes.

A charming room with sturdy double bed with lovely old uneven walls, original oak floorboards, a large chimney stack and dormer window.
A truly unique and quirky bedroom with another high built in queen size Breton bed (mattress 4'6" wide and 5" long) concealed in an oak frame with heavy curtains for you to hide behind and watch the TV/DVD with and shelf so you can relax with a drink and a good book/film. Antique mounting steps are provided for you to climb in and a chaise longue sits in the corner of the room with a side table. The free standing wardrobe has ample hanging space and shelves.

All prices include 100% cotton bed linen, towels, heating (including under floor heating through the ground floor other than the sitting room which has a large wood burner) and electricity, plus a welcome bottle of wine and biscuits to help you get your break off to a relaxing start.

Where is a lovely Sauna which guests can use during their break in Oakleys, there's an additional charge of £100 which covers the cost of firing it up and the supply of extra dressing gowns, slippers and towels. If you wish to add the use of the sauna to your booking this can be done in the booking process.
A BBQ logs and coal is available at the cottage.
This beautiful semi-detached cottage is in the tiny hamlet of Foxearth just up the hill from Long Melford, one of Suffolk's famous villages less than three miles from Long Melford and eight from the famous medieval town of Lavenham.
Long Melford, the setting for the long running TV series 'Lovejoy' the antique dealing detective, is another wonderful bustling Medieval wool town with many interesting shops, pubs, restaurants and stately homes to visit.
A well-behaved dog is welcome downstairs. If you wish to bring a dog it must be mentioned at the time of booking on the booking form and is subject to our conditions of booking.
