Middleton is a picturesque village situated halfway between Southwold and Aldeburgh and so it's an ideal base to explore the beautiful Suffolk Coast. The centre of the pretty village of Middleton is less than a 5 minute walk down lanes and through the pretty grounds of the historic parish church where a single sheep often mows the lawn during the summer months! The village has a good pub, The Bell, which serves meals using great local meat and fish and has open fires, gardens, a traditional country bar and a friendly welcome. There's also an excellent Reckford Farm Shop selling a wide range of local produce and fresh ready meals - click here to read a review of the farm shop by The Guardian newspaper.
Our Top Five Tips for exploring the area:
1. Spend the afternoon walking around the perimeter of RSPB Minsmere, one of the UK’s premier bird-watching sites. Pass through woods, along the beach and through heathland, visiting the National Trust’s tearooms on Dunwich cliffs along the way.
2. Take a drive to seaside Aldeburgh to sample the famous fish and chips on the beach.
3. Walk along footpaths to the pretty village of Middleton, stopping at the pub for lunch.
4. Visit the historic seaside town of Southwold and take a stroll down Southwold Pier for coffee and stunning views back of the town.
5. Enjoy a generous and tasteful meal at the local pub The Bell.
