Luxury self catering Suffolk holiday cottage
Apple Tree Cottage, Sternfield, near Aldeburgh, Suffolk
This idyllic part-thatched period cottage is in a tranquil setting down a pretty lane, close to the seaside resort of Aldeburgh and Snape Maltings – home to the Aldeburgh Festival. The owners are textile designers and their passion for fabulous, colourful fabrics is apparent throughout, successfully combining fresh white walls and beams with splashes of vibrant colour in both the fabrics and paintings. This house has wifi access.
The house is set out on two floors with a large cottage garden and a wealth of period features inside. On the ground floor there’s a cosy living room with an open fire, a large open plan living space with a second seating area and a dining area, a kitchen and bathroom. Up the wooden period staircase to the first floor there are three bedrooms - two doubles (one with an en-suite cloakroom) and a single bedroom. Outside there’s a large garden with a summerhouse and the apple trees that give the house it’s name. There is a lovely walk through woods and over fields directly from the house, down the lane.
Ground floor:
Open plan living room/dining room: The front door leads into a large open plan space. The living room area (this is one of two living rooms) has a large inglenook fireplace with a wood burning stove and a wealth of beams. There’s a two seater sofa, two armchairs and a coir rug. The dining area has a large oak Muji dining table and seating for six.
Kitchen: The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, an extractor fan, an integrated fridge and freezer, a dishwasher and a microwave. It is a part of the open plan space, just off the dining room and up a step.
Bathroom: This room has contemporary style fittings and includes a bath with a hand held shower attachment, a w.c. and a hand basin.
Main living room: This second living room has a lovely inglenook fireplace with an open fire, cream carpet and colourful rug. There’s a white fabric covered corner sofa, and a flat screen TV with Sky Freeview channels and a DVD player.
Stairs to the first floor: There are two quirky steep and narrow staircases, both of which are original to the house. One leads to a small landing and the other steeper stairs leads into the single bedroom.
Bedroom 1: This lovely large double room has two windows and high ceilings with exposed roof beams and an original fire place (not in use). There’s a double brass bed with bedside tables, a wardrobe and a chest of drawers, and roller blinds to the windows. There’s a step up into this bedroom from the landing.
En-suite cloakroom to Bedroom 1: With a w.c. and a hand basin.
Bedroom 2: A large bedroom with a double bed, bedside tables and a wardrobe with drawers. The room as partly sloping walls and a dormer window overlooking out over the pretty garden and a field beyond.
Bedroom 3: This large single bedroom has a single wooden bed, bedside table, a chest of drawers and hooks on the wall to hang your clothes. It has an internal set of stairs that lead down to the ground floor and a door. The stairs are steep and narrow with a hand rail. The room can be reached either via the stairs or directly through a door from Bedroom 2.
Outside: The cottage has a lovely large garden with blossoming trees in the spring and colourful shrubs throughout the summer. There’s a summer house and patio with a table and chairs. There is a lovely walk from the house down a lane and through woods - keep going and it opens out to fields. The house has off-road parking for two medium size cars.
About the area
Apple Tree Cottage is a semi-detached, self catering cottage situated in the pretty village of Sternfield, less than 10 minutes from the seaside town of Aldeburgh and 5 minutes from Snape, home to the Snape Maltings attractions and the Aldeburgh Music festival. Saxmundham railway station is less than 5 minutes drive away.
What's included?
All rental prices include bed linen and towels, gas and electricity plus a welcome bottle of wine and biscuits to help you get your break off to a relaxing start.
The property is equipped with gas central heating, TV, DVD player, CD/radio player, electric hob and oven, integrated fridge and freezer, microwave, dishwasher, and a BBQ . A travel cot and a high chair are available at the cottage on request.
Restrictions and notes: Sorry, no smoking, pets or unaccompanied teenagers permitted at the property.
Tariff
£430 to £825 week depending on the time of year. Short breaks are sometimes available – check the availability calendar for up to date information and to book online.

3. How to pay. When you have filled out your booking form you can choose to pay online by credit or debit card or send a cheque. A 25% deposit is requested at the time of your booking. The balance and a £100 returnable good housekeeping deposit (subject to terms and conditions) are due six weeks before your holiday commences. Please note there is a 1.5% charge for credit card payments. There is no charge for debit card or cheque payments.
