Naomi and Alex Tarry founded Best of Suffolk in 2006, with six properties, on a mission the bring the standards of boutique hotels to self-catering accommodation. We have successfully grown our award winning business year-on-year and now represent over 300 Suffolk holiday properties.

All of us at Best of Suffolk are proud of what we’ve achieved – creating a thriving business by bringing boutique standards to holiday letting and focussing on achieving the highest levels of customer service.

Back in the early days, a wooden seagull called Morris adorned the fireplace of Aldeburgh Cottage, Best of Suffolk’s very first holiday cottage, he soon became recognised as a symbol of our company, standing for luxury holiday accommodation in Suffolk.

From the beginning, Best of Suffolk has stood for consistently high standards and stylish properties. Before any property is launched, we ensure that every one of our properties will delight our guests and reach our brand standards, including, an agreed contents list, crisp cotton linen and oversized bath towels – underlining our commitment to delighting our guests, enabling them to have outstanding holidays.

Now in our tenth year and continuing to grow rapidly, our commitment to listening to the needs of our guests and offering them the very best in stylish, well-appointed properties remains our number one priority!

NAOMI TARRY – DIRECTOR AND CO-FOUNDER

Naomi and Alex Tarry set up Best of Suffolk in 2006, driven by a passion to bring the standards and experience of a boutique hotel to self-catering. Naomi is a former Institute of Directors East of England Businesswoman of the Year.

Before launching Best of Suffolk, Naomi established her career in Press and Publicity, working at the BBC over six years, promoting TV and radio programmes, including working with the BBC Natural History unit and Sir David Attenborough to promote BBC One series The Life of Mammals. Prior to this, she worked as a Senior Press Officer for the Government, under the Blair administration, as well as in the Private Offices of various Government Ministers, including the position of Assistant Private Secretary to the Schools Minister Estelle Morris.

Naomi says “What I love most about working at Best of Suffolk is reading through the fantastic feedback that we receive from our guests – for me it means it’s a job well done.”

When she’s not at work, Naomi enjoys walking and cycling with her husband Alex and their Jack Russell ‘Rosie’. She also enjoys getting involved in community activities and is a former Chairman of the Aldeburgh Business Association, where she galvanised the business community to help Aldeburgh become the amazing place that it is today.

ALEX TARRY – DIRECTOR AND CO-FOUNDER

Having grown up near the Suffolk coast, Alex studied economics at Loughborough University where he met Naomi, with whom he swiftly started in business, buying and letting student houses. Since then, Alex has pursued a professional career in London undertaking a variety of marketing and sales roles with NatWest and BT. Naomi and Alex married in 1996 and now live in Aldeburgh on the Suffolk coast.

Along with Naomi, Alex runs Best of Suffolk with their wonderful team, focussing on developing the Best of Suffolk brand, property recruitment and advising clients, as well as dreaming up exciting new directions in which to take the business.

When not at work Alex enjoys charity cycle rides and raising money for the Best of Suffolk Fund, with his charitable banger rallies – taking him to 27 countries in the last 2 years and of course he’s always renovating historic houses, creating wonderful holiday cottages in the process!

 

Meet the team

Tim Ripman - Head of Operations

Tim joined Best of Suffolk in November 2016 having returned to the county with his family. Born and bred in the Woodbridge area, Tim has spent the last eleven years living and working in London. During this time he has gained hospitality experience in boutique and luxury hotels, and most recently serviced apartments and apart-hotels. Between 2008 and 2016 Tim was the Area Manager for SACO – The Serviced Apartment Company, responsible for a portfolio of twenty hotels. Prior to this, Tim started his career at Lace Market Hotel in Nottingham where he was at university, before moving to No.5 Maddox St in Mayfair.

Tim says that his role as Head of Operations was an opportunity to be involved in the county he is proud to call home, but also joins a successful business with an ambitious team. Combine this with the most stylish properties Suffolk has to offer, their owners and the guests on a day-to-day basis, and it makes a very exciting and rewarding challenge.

Outside of work, Tim appreciates the time he gets to spend with his young family. Being fortunate enough to have travelled the world, Tim has a love for watching and playing sport, food and drink and the odd night out!

Annette Mason-Gordon - Business Development Manager

Annette has established her career in the hospitality industry; managing and marketing prestigious hotels such as the St James’s Club and 22 Jermyn Street in London and prestigious game lodges in South Africa.

Having moved to Suffolk in 2010, Annette joined the Customer Service team at Best of Suffolk on a part time basis. However, when the position of Business Development Manager became available early in 2014, Annette couldn’t resist the challenge: “I’ve always loved meeting people and thoroughly enjoy seeing stunning properties across Suffolk; meeting the owners and discussing the letting potential of their properties.”

Family time is a priority after work, be it a long bike ride with her husband, teenage twins and the dog; or a gourmet dinner at one of the local eateries, with a good bottle of wine!

Claire Pegg - Finance Manager

Claire was born and brought up in Suffolk, attended Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham and later training to become an accountant and obtaining her AAT qualification. Claire went on to work as Head of Accountancy at two local firms and has over 15 years in the industry.

Claire joined Best of Suffolk in 2011 and says “I was inspired to work at Best of Suffolk because of its consistent growth, big ambitions and most importantly; exciting team of bright and driven people”.

Outside of work Claire enjoys spending time with her six-year-old son and in any spare time she gets enjoys clay pigeon shooting and live music.

Will Peake - Digital Marketing Executive

Will has over 10 years of experience in online marketing in the travel industry, since starting his career with DFDS Seaways in Harwich.  Whilst studying in college he quickly came to embrace the science of how companies interact with their customers online.

Will joined Best of Suffolk in 2016 and says “What strikes me most about working at Best of Suffolk is the drive that everyone has to do the best that they can do and to always aim for the top”

Outside of work, Will enjoys spending time with his family, having family days out in the local area and introducing his daughters to new things to do and enjoy.

Hannah Mortimer - Lead Sales Executive

Hannah was born and brought up in Suffolk and now can’t imagine living anywhere else. Hannah began her career in a variety of sales and customer service roles before she joined Best of Suffolk in 2013.

Hannah says “I love the varied challenges I come across every day and being able to help clients and owners alike gives me a real sense of achievement”.

When not at work, she enjoys cooking, long country walks around Suffolk with her partner and spending time with her family.

Becky Alderton - Sales Support Executive

Becky is a key member of the Sales team and is passionate in helping guests get the ideal cottage for them.

Becky is a proud Ipswich Town fan and loves travelling and discovering new places to visit.

Donna Hostler - Property Recruitment Executive

Donna was brought up in Suffolk and attended Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham.

She joined the Best of Suffolk team in Spring 2012 on a part time basis after her eldest daughter was born and then returned following the arrival of her second daughter in 2014.

Donna supports the Property Recruitment Team and when not at work, she enjoys spending time with her children and riding her horse.

Rebecca Keeble - Customer Service Manager

Rebecca joined us in March; she has an extensive background in Customer Service across a variety of industries and is on hand to assist you with any customer service related matters.

In her spare time Rebecca enjoys spending time with family and friends and exploring all that Suffolk has to offer.

 

Nicky Wegner - Sales and Customer Service Advisor

Nicky moved to Suffolk 18 months ago and has strong family ties to the area for 30 years.  Nicky has always loved working in Sales/Customer Service & has worked for various companies in Suffolk & Essex. Never knowing what to expect when picking up a call is a challenge she thrives on.

In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her partner & 2 dogs, Charlie & Ellie, there is no better place than Suffolk for long dog walks, whether it is the beach or the beautiful countryside.

Toni Mudge - Sales and Customer Service Administrator

Originally from South East London I moved to Suffolk 9 years ago, after coming to Suffolk on family holidays at least twice a year since I was born.  I’ve always enjoyed working in customer service roles and have worked as a Receptionist in hotels on the Suffolk coast.

I was excited by the opportunity to work for Best of Suffolk because the passion and team work that everyone in this company has.

When not at work I enjoy spending time with my partner, family and friends and taking our Welsh Collie Harvey out for long walks in Southwold.
