Period holiday cottage in Westleton, near Dunwich and the Suffolk coast

This charming period cottage has a special, secluded location down a private drive, but within easy walking distance to the centre of Westleton.  Westleton is a pretty Suffolk village that has a well regarded gastro-pub, The Crown – as well as a beautiful village green that hosts the annual barrel rolling competition.

This beautifully restored cottage is chock-full of interest and charm, and has that all-important wood burning stove.  There is a large open plan kitchen/dining room in a new extension; whist the sitting room, bathroom and bedrooms are all in the period part of the cottage.  There are two double bedrooms – one of which is on the ground floor – and one single bedroom.   Outside, there is a large garden to relax in and parking for two cars.

GROUND FLOOR: The main entrance is a door to the rear of the property, which leads into a small hallway - open to the kitchen/dining room - where there is space to leave your outdoor coats and boots.

KITCHEN/DINING ROOM: This large open plan kitchen/dining room has a characterful dining table seating five - with three chairs and a bench for two. The kitchen area has an electric hob and oven, a slim-line dishwasher, a microwave, a tall fridge freezer and a washing machine.  There is an original period window that looks through from the dining table to the sitting room.

SITTING ROOM: The main feature of this room is the wood burning stove set into an inglenook fireplace. The original Suffolk brick floor and oak beamed ceiling has been kept to create an atmospheric place to relax in the evenings.  In the room there is a two-seater leather sofa, a two-seater fabric sofa, a soft leather armchair, a 22” TV with FreeView channels and a built-in DVD player. There is also a stereo system with DAB radio, CD player and an iPod docking station.

BEDROOM 1: A long, narrow, double bedroom with a bedside table and lamp, a dressing table with lamp, a chest of drawers and an inset wardrobe with a fabric drape covering the front.

BATHROOM: There is a bath with an overhead shower, a hand basin, a heated towel rail and a W.C.

FIRST FLOOR: From the sitting room is a slightly steep, angled, original oak staircase leading to a small landing with doors to the remaining bedrooms.

MASTER BEDROOM: This room has beautiful original wide oak floorboards and beamed sloping walls.  There is a double bed with matching bedside tables and lamps, a walk in wardrobe, a chest of drawers and a dressing table.

BEDROOM 2: A single bedroom with a full sized single bed featuring original oak floorboards and an oak-beamed sloping ceiling.  There is a dressing table with drawers, and hanging space on the wall.

OUTSIDE: There is a large enclosed garden mostly laid to lawn, a patio with a table and chairs and off-road parking for two cars.

This semi-detached cottage is situated on the edge of the picturesque village of Westleton where you can have a delightful meal at the Crown, close to RSPB Minsmere where you can walk across historic heathland and see if you can spot the many different bird types, and historic Dunwich on the Suffolk coast. The area is rich in wildlife and has a network of footpaths.

Westleton is roughly about halfway between the seaside towns of Southwold where you can take a stroll down Southwold Pier for coffee and stunning views back at the town, and Aldeburgh famous fish and chips - which makes it an ideal location for exploring the pretty heritage coastline and ancient villages. Darsham mainline train station is just 3 miles away, with several direct trains to London Liverpool Street.  For a bit of fun why not takeake the kids crabbing in Walberswick!

All prices include 100% cotton bed linen, towels, heating and electricity plus a welcome bottle of wine and biscuits to help you get your break off to a relaxing start.

This semi-detached property is equipped with under-floor heating downstairs and modern electric radiators upstairs and an eco-friendly ground source heat pump. Appliances include a flat screen TV with Freeview TV channels and DVD player, a stereo system with DAB radio, CD player and iPod docking station, a built-in electric hob and oven, a tall fridge/freezer, and a microwave.   The sitting room has original brick floors, the kitchen/dining room and bathroom have tiled flooring, Bedroom 1 has carpeted flooring and the entire first floor has original oak wood flooring.
