Suffolk Self-Catering Holiday Accommodation in Aldeburgh.

The 1928 House is a very special house, bought by the owners of Best of Suffolk in 2009 to save a precious piece of Aldeburgh's history.  This house has remained almost untouched since it was built by Reeds of Aldeburgh for one of it's employees in 1928.  The house has most of it's original furnishings and decor and has been brought back into use with a painstaking and fastidious renovation, meaning guests staying in the two double bedrooms can live in contemporary comfort, but with the atmosphere of the house's past all around them.

The ground floor of the house has a sitting room, dining room and kitchen, all with original furniture and open fires, or in the case of the kitchen a cast iron range, plus there is also a cloakroom.  Upstairs there are two good sized double bedrooms, another cloakroom, and a family bath and shower room.  Outside there is a large garden with room for barbeques and drinks, there is unrestricted on-road parking outside the house.

GROUND FLOOR: The front door leads into the ground floor hallway, which connects the dining room, kitchen, ground floor cloakroom, sitting room and has stairs to the first floor.

SITTING ROOM: This double aspect room has an open fire and large windows to the front of the room and to the rear overlooking the garden. In the room there is fully restored original furniture, purchased in 1929, soon after the house was built. There are two sofas and an armchair, and a subtly concealed flat screen TV with a DVD player and an iPod docking station.

kitchen:This room retains it period character, with a working range cooker and original (non working) hot water boiler, but has modern amenities, including a cooker, fridge and dishwasher tucked away behind the scenes.

DINING ROOM: Frozen in time, this room exudes the calm and gentle atmosphere of the 1920s with its open fire, original furniture and restored bay window to the front garden.

FIRST FLOOR : A straight set of original stairs from the ground floor leads to a first floor landing from which both double bedrooms, the bathroom and cloakroom can all be accessed.

BEDROOM 1:  This double aspect room has views over both the front and rear gardens, an original fireplace and once again it retains the original furniture, including it’s restored double bed, purchased for the room in 1929.  There is also a set of drawers, dressing table and bedroom chair.

BEDROOM 2: The room overlooks the front garden and again has a restored double bed original to the house, a dressing table, chest of drawers and walk-in wardrobe.

BATHROOM: To the rear of the property there is a spacious family bathroom, complete with roll-top bath, shower and hand basin, there is an adjacent separate WC, accessed via the landing.

OUTSIDE:This Aldeburgh holiday cottage has a good size garden to the front and rear, and unrestricted on-road parking is available on the road outside the house.  There is a patio area with table and chairs in the south facing front garden.

This unique semi-detached holiday cottage is located about a mile from the beach and shops on Aldeburgh High Street.  Aldeburgh has an excellent range of restaurants, pubs and shops and there are pretty walks around the marsh and to Thorpeness. Fresh fish can be bought from the fish huts along the beach. Click here to view our friends’ page for discounts with the local amenities.
